Power Conditioner or Preamp to improve sound?

David, not sure if this will help but have you tried looking at the power graph for your P12 via the ‘PowerPlay’ web site? I have three, older generation P10s. One each for my Electrocompaniet AW600 mono blocks and the third for my other gear. The AW600 draws about 230W at idle, according to the spec sheet but the following PowerPlay screen shot says otherwise.

Presumably, the peaks were during listening sessions. :smirk:

Just another comment. IMO, the quality (or not) of the power from the wall is not an important consideration. Regardless, the PowerPlant provides low-impedance, highly regulated power. Sooner or later you’re likely going to have power factor drops due to the fact that you’re not the only one drawing power from the street. The PowerPlant seems to overcome this issue. Here’s another screen shot of voltage in and out for one of my P10s. While you can see the voltage fluctuations from the ‘wall’ power, the P10 is doing a pretty good job at stabilizing it.

At any rate, using P10s for my mono blocks gives me noticeable sonic improvements. The dynamics seem to sound better.

I don’t understand how a power conditioner or power regenerator can improve sound.

The output of all audio equipment is the incoming power as modulated by an audio signal. The cleaner the incoming power the more precise the output.

( Never mind if your post was intended to be sarcastic. I tend to take things literally.)

So true.

A buddy of mine is currently (pun intended) spending thousands on power cables and audiophile outlets but has zero interest in re-gen when I introduced the concept and PSA’s products.

I gently remarked how a regen and stock cables might meet or exceed the $8,000 he’s spent on power stuff.

Mike,

Thank you for this! I have my P12 connected to the web and occasionally check the PowerPlay site – but I had not thought to use it to see if my P12 didn’t have enough juice to run my BHK250 as well as the source components.
