Problem with my system

I need help tracking down a problem. Both speakers have sound but one sounds normal the other is diminished some and sounds unbalanced. How do you track down problems like this? Just really need a set of procedures. Hopefully someone will be able to help.

Thanks
Mike

Components are:

PrimaLuna EVO 100 Tube Preamplifier
Quicksilver Silver 88 Mono amps
Bluesound node 2i

It happens with my analog system also, so just using streamer to diagnose.

1st thing I would try is swap the tubes from left to right, if you get reversed lowering there’s your problem. That would seem most likely with tube amps

Agreed, sounds like a bad tube somewhere.

I would start by swapping the left and right cables out of your preamp.
That will tell you if the preamp is the culprit or not.

Is this a new problem in a system that has not changed?
Are the connections correct—positive/negative?

I really appreciate you responding to my plight! I get out of sorts when I can’t listen to music.
I believe one of the signal tubes a mono block is failing.

Thanks
Mike

Start by swapping channels progressively. First one component, then put it back and go to the next. At one point, if it’s not the speaker itself, you’ll find that the problem moves. That will narrow it down. You’re welcome to email me directly if you need.

I know the feeling. All is not right with the universe if my system is down or not sounding right. Music is an essential part of my life.

Can’t wait to listen to live music is summer, and attend the RMAF.

I have tracked down the the offending component, it is one of the mono blocks. I suspect tubes to be the problem. Here’s what’s going on, with the amps turned on and unhooked from preamplifier one is making a loud static hissing sound not a buzz. Is my suspicion correct, please comment.

Again thanks too everyone who commented oh yeah who’s this Paul guy he’s pretty smart, lol.

Thanks
Mike

Swap the tubes on the mono monoblocks, if the problem moves to the other channel it’s the tubes.

I, too, suspect the tubes.

If this is what’s going on, you can almost be certain it’s a bad or old tube. New tubes in both amps should definitely do it!

Tubes are absolutely the, it’s the signal tubes 12ax7 and 12BH7. An I have plenty of spares for them. I appreciate everyones interest in helping me get back to music.

Thanks
Mike
