PS Audio Music Server In The Pipeline?

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere but is @bitperfectrichard still working on Octave?

@Paul @jamesh ?

If not, how many on the team now.

And where is the software at?

And hardware?

Sorry Wobble, Iā€™m not super clued in on this project.

Hopefully @Paul can give an update then

The last I heard was that the streamer is expected shortly before Christmas.

Is there any chance the music server will play SACD through I2S without putting it on the server kinda like the PST? Im asking because I cant afford both. Or I will have to rip it and then put it on the server?

That is so cool to hear the echo reply of his saxā€¦

Now a hilarious occurence would be some unsuspecting pipeline worker starts hearing this saxophone music coming from the pipe :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:  What a hoot that would have beenā€¦

Could you imagine the look on the pipelineā€™s workerā€™s face on hearing the saxā€¦

That is hilariousā€¦ :innocent:
Thanks for posting

I just discovered this thread and would like to avoid combing though 1600+ posts to learn if my question has already been answered.

Iā€™m currently using a Nucleus as the server with my Roon subscription. I was wondering if this PS Audio server might mate better with my DSD than the Nucleus. Iā€™m very pleased with the Nucleus but as the saying goes; thereā€™s always room for improvement.

If your running your core on the nucleus thatā€™s where it will stay. The first iteration will be a Roon endpoint.

Not sure I followed what your question isā€¦

However, since there is no PSA server yet in the wild, comparisons and predictions related to other kit are pretty much impossible at this time.

That said, it might be of interest to you to know PSA has decided that its server product(s) will be ā€œRoon ready.ā€

Maybe others will chime in here as well.

Cheers.

This thread is 5 years old, whatā€™s the hold up, Scott?

Congrats to PS Audio for the M1200 getting an amplifier of the year award from The Absolute Sound. Also great to see the Directstream and Bridge II having perhaps their last hurrah, in TASā€™s 2022 High End Buyerā€™s Guide as amongst the better DACs and music servers/peripherals (respectively) on the market. Very much looking forward to seeing the Directstream II and Bridge III next year!

There will be no Bridge III. The DSD MKII will not have an internal slot for a bridge-type card.

Hi, I think we both have the same understanding that there wonā€™t be a slot in card to provide network streaming in the Directstream MkII.

However, I understand a new Perfectwave Bridge III / entry level Octave streamer will partner with the Directstream MkII, to provide a streaming solution across two boxes. Canā€™t wait for it!

It makes no sense to refer to an external box as the ā€œBridge IIIā€ when the first 2 bridges were cards inside the DACā€¦if that is what PS Audio is doing all it does is make for confusionā€¦

Fair call! I always thought of it as the Octave streamer, but saw @Paul euphemistically refer to it as ā€œBridge IIIā€, I guess because it continues the legacy of the earlier bridges in providing PS Audioā€™s streaming option for the Direcstream DAC?

Iā€™m not sure what PS Audio will end up calling it, but they have confirmed it will be a standalone streamer in the Perfectwave range and that it will complement the DS MkII DAC.

Octave is the registered company name of:

Octave Audio

Perhaps PS Audio, after all the fuzz before voting on this forum for a name for their recording service want to associate Octave to the recording / music service only.

Perhaps there will be no proprietary PS Audio on line streaming service as the R&D costs to compete with Roon and BluOS and the likes are not worth it.

There has been talk about the Octave streaming service since many years and only a couple of recordings were released. No Octave streaming and server devices, no on-line service.

That is OK, there is already more than enough to choose from.

A bridge III, Roon ready and compatible with Spottify Connect and AirPlay is the better choice when entering the streaming market this late and the clients have settled with the available streaming options.

DCS called their external box a bridge.

Just to be clear in this sea of muddy water. The new streamer is in its own chassis (a half size chassis) and it will officially be called the AirLens. Internally we may sometimes refer to it as a Bridge III but thatā€™s certainly not its official name.

Yes! We are quite honored, especially the M1200 receiving amplifier of the year. Thatā€™s a big deal!

Paul, is there a special reason for you to differentiate it by name to a ā€œstreamerā€ other than to just give it a name?
