Roon software is run on a small windows 11 pc. The remote is Android on a dedicated Fire tablet.
As to Roon, some-thing/body has to provide library management services. Granted, Roon makes a meal of this with vast quantities of photos and backup information and integration of Qobuz and personal music files, etc.
I had used Tidal for a number of years and ultimately switched to Qobuz. When I started Air-Lens, only Tidal was available without Roon. Once I adopted Roon, I went back to Qobuz.
Found this file quality/data stream rate chart. Spotify says its Premium plan streams at lossy compressed 246 kbits/second, whereas Qobuz/Roon stream with lossless files at just over 1,000 kbits/second for 44.1/16 and of course higher for higher resolution streams.
Good question! I assume no, but yea, I would love to see Qobuz be able to access local files in some way.. The only reason I am now keeping ROON is for may access to my Octave Records collection and DSD.
Saw 320 in is advertising but also see 256 amidst list of premium features after clicking on the relevant feature
oops, can’t find that lower number now, so maybe it is 320 (and lossy compression to boot)
edit: as I noted above, my dac shows 44.1 khz for Spotify…but this is likely because 44.1 is smallest indicator presuming that 44.1 would be the lowest quality put into the dac
I would assume (and we audiophiles love to do that) that any units that support Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect will include this in their next software updates—totally assuming, though.
I have been using the Qobuz Connect app with my Bluesound Node X and it sounds great. Qobuz brings it up under “Airplay & Bluetooth” on my I Phone, where I also have the BluOS app installed. Qobuz recognized the Node without my having to do anything.
In my audition and experience all of these software programs change the sound and performance attributes slightly. I have found the “Connect” features to be the cleanest sound in my experience. I am not sure I would use the phrase “take away” but these third party apps seem to be at a minimum doing something.
Qobuz Connect is avoiding most of external noise like running Roon server or other services on different hardware etc
So if you don’t need digital room correction / a convolution filter than Qobuz Connect will bring you the best possible sound quality.
