Qobuz in the USA

You have an opinion and that is AOK. If you look at Qobuz’s catalog you see they are not just going for the Classical/Jazz crowd. Qobuz doesn’t have to go head to head with Tidal to understand Classical listeners make up a small number of subscribers.

I didn’t say they only just going for the Classical/Jazz market. I’ve been a subscriber for over 5 years, including when they went bust chasing market share, and relaunched (the service never stopped). I’m well aware of the breadth of their catalogue. I’m also aware of their strategy and they have explained it in the press over the years and I have spoken to them about ti, because they used to canvass subscribers. I also subscribe to two magazines that they are closely connected with, Gramophone and Jazzwise, it encourage subscribers to spend more, which they do. Last I heard about half their revenue was from downloads.

As a long term Qobuz user in the UK, the grayed-out tracks appear to be tracks that are not yet licensed in your country. I find this happens a lot on Qobuz generated playlists.

At this very moment Qobuz is not available in the Netherlands, seems a DDOS-attack…:frowning:

Has anyone found anything other than Tidal, Qobuz, or Spotify streaming service they like? My Qobuz trail expires in a few days and I’m just trying to find out if there are any other services I don’t know about.

In North Texas servers are also down.

Same in NC and I would imagine other places as well.

Same for Colorado Springs, CO

I’ve been using Deezer HiFi (16/44.1) for a couple months now. So far I like the sound quality and selection of music.

Qobuz is up & running again over here in the lowlands :grinning:

Back in North Texas too

I finally got around to getting Qobuz with the help of VPN and our Florida home’s zip code (I’m in Canada). It’s a nice addition. I still run Tidal and have my library. I haven’t found that either Qobuz or Tidal are clear winners. I’ve found that some music is better on one than the other. The good news is that Roon allows me to toggle streaming sources. What I like are the enhanced libraries. I pretty much don’t know where to begin.

I’m away from home, with my iPad and some HiFiMan headphones. It’s a bit after 2AM, and I wanted to hear Keith Jarrett’s Solo/Concerts.

Qobuz is pretty great.

Is it the consensus that the USA version of Qobuz is now operational, stable, and equivalent to the French version and that one should switch to pay a bit less? Any suggestions, tips or warnings about the process of switching and account to the USA?

Mark.

Jury is still out for me (US user)…

Can’t compare to databases and servers supporting other countries; but is pretty stable and sounds great piggybacked in Roon 1.6.

Via the Qobuz app. not so much (in terms of stability); but office Wi-Fi and cellular service can be spotty where I have been using the app.

YMMV.

If it helps, I am seriously leaning toward dropping Tidal and keeping Qobuz based on the experience, on balance.

My only hesitancy is that Tidal’s catalog is still generally larger than Qobuz’s. But I am guessing Qobuz will catch up over time.

FWIW.

desktop app is definitely not stable yet for windows. I have no problems though streaming qobuz usa through Audirvana+ however. My experience is also that the catalog is behind Tidal at the moment in terms of quantity.

I have the trial through Roon which apparently is the UK version does anyone know why ?

And why is the acct managed via Apple ?

Just canceled my Qobuz trial (29 days) at $25/month I saw no value against paying $10/month for hi res Tidal. Did not see a 2.5X better library and search and SQ was equal CD to CD. The only argument I could make was true hi res against MQA and their hi res library was not 2.5X better for the material I was listening to… will recheck in a few years…
