Hi, I have noticed myself that digital out from different streamers can sound very different in quality when using digital out into the same DAC, amp and speakers. I have read that there should be no difference in the ones and zeros but I know that is not the case. I have heard similar using digital out on difference cd players also. With regard to a streamer that sounds good against a bad one, what are the main differences that make the digital output out of a good streamer sound good. What should I be looking for? Is there any type of spec to look out for or is it hard to measure with the difference being perceived? Thanks for any help with this.

Welcome!
Hard to generalize an answer. Different brands have different preferred outputs.
Even streamers with multiple outputs (Antipodes comes to mind) have different owner’s preferred outputs, from AES/EBU to USB.
With a so fast evolving technology, I’d look for flexibility: it means server with modular outputs, able to provide easy upgrades/replacements in future.

Thanks for your reply. Reading around it seems getting rid of jitter and noise is a big one like galanic isolation and having a good clock. I’m not sure there will be specs on the box to look for but I think this will be a case of $/€/£ will equal quality from reputable companies.
