Recomendation on a small DAC & Headphone amp for office desk

That’s cool!!!

23 day update… the sound of the Woo WA7 Fireflies 2nd gen (V2).

I love this thing. It is colored and I still can’t listen to Yusef Latif’s Eastern Sounds Love Theme from Spartacus . His flute pierces my brain still… got to turn it down. Maybe it is something in the recording that I never recognized before… maybe I never played it over my headphones?

Does anyone have this recording? How does it sound to you with headphones?

Despite its coloring, it is just a joy to listen to. It sounds way better than the headphone socket on my PrimaLuna integrated using my DirectStream DAC… something that pretty much shocks me actually.

Anywho… highly recommended and, IMO, a hell of a bargain given it is a DAC that plays all my formats and an amplifier all in one. I NEVER would have purchased an all in one unit as a “serious” playback system, but this is a killer. I was just looking for a quality, cheap unit, to get by…this Woo is an audiophile unit. The V2 I have is still for sale direct from Woo at $899.

The only thing I wish for is the ability to do some tube rolling. There just are no alternatives for this little odd triode… plenty of Sovteks available for cheap (what is in there from Woo), but no alternatives.

I sing off key naturally. So I’m told. My kids have told me not to sing in public.

Update - 6 months with Woo WA7 Fireflies 2nd Gen

I am still loving this thing.

So I pulled my DirectStream DAC out of my big rig, placed it on my desk, and plugged it into the WA7 via some short RCA cables. The WA7 has a switch in the back to bypass the internal DAC so the WA7 is turned into a pure headphone amp.

Results? I actually started chuckling. Cripes the detail. What a wonderful system. I don’t know how I am going to put the DirectStream back into my big rig.

Anywho, the WA7’s weaklink is its DAC. No, it is not a bad DAC at all… but wow, what a great amp this WA7 is.

BTW, I purchased another set of tubes, the ElectroHarmonix 6C45PI with the gold pins. I was expecting the great Tube Apocalypse. I have yet to install them as I just love the thing as is.

Peace
