Red light in BHK Preamplifier

What do the red light inside my BHK Pre mean?

An indication that the preamp is still live when the tubes are switched off…

Commonly know as standby. The lights are always on on the BHK amps and BHK Pre. My guess is that they are somehow connected to capacitors as it takes time for the power to drain when power is disconnected. I use the lamps as indicators of when to pull tubes. Always after the lights go out.

:rofl::joy:

Here’s an interesting somewhat related detail for the BHK preamp when powering back on after a tube swap for example. If you’ve had line power removed for a while and then flip the back panel switch on you have to wait a couple of minutes before taking out of standby. If not you may see a display showing fault. Really had me concerned the first time I changed tubes. Apparently has to do with the headphone section bus voltage being too low. PS Audio helped me figure this out very quickly and I suggested they add this to the user manual. Tell your fellow BHK pre owners.
