Compared to 20 dB of difference with the sofa between lower dip and higher peak frequencies, it seems to help a lot reducing the gap at around 15 dB and helped also reducing dips at 60 and 230 Hz.
Still remain the peaks around 95-125 Hz.
I need to get REW fired up to see what I actually have in this room but I am too busy listening to a killer system to make the time to measure it.
Maybe next weekend.
I think it will have the ORC installed. If not it will be as soon as widely available.
I cant wait! Oh yes I can.
Thanks again for the slight nudge toward both “pieces of kit” as the Brits say.
It’s a good day to be me.
I feel fortunate to have discovered these bits and pieces. They seem nice. @paul172 told me about Bacch. I read up on it and thought I needed to try it. A few days later an adio shows up on Audiogon. It was a sign from Bob. I didn’t hesitate.
For the Vivids and the Gryphon gear and the Stealth cables I have to thank George at Kyomi. He fought hard for me to consider the Vivids. In the end I just decided to trust him. He was right.
I have just been lucky.
(But the Grimm MU1 was my discovery. No other person said “Hey look at this!”)
I have been interested in the BACCH technology for a while too although situations have kept me from going that way until now. The recent move put a gap in the process.
I saw that same BACCH on Audiogon and was going to buy it but missed the chance as we previously discussed. That was then and now it’s now so thanks to @paul172 too!
It’s a good feeling. I even closed the USAM and Agon tabs on the browser along with TMR.
I honestly dont feel the need for more or different gear.
As Al would say, it seems nice.
Yup, it was a padded sofa covered in fabric, 190 cm wide and 110 cm deep, with various cushions on top, although with a rather low seat. It was acting as a bass trap (at least you can deduce it from the different current value of RT60). The Stressless is the Skyline model (size Medium) in leather.
The total volume of the occupied room is now significantly reduced.
And there you go. I tried to replace my small leather chair with a fabric loveseat and it killed the acoustics in my treated space. Lesson which should be obvious to everyone - furniture is part of the room acoustics! In your case that padded sofa was too much of a problem in those areas for your treatments to deal with. Now you’ll have to reassess your treatments and possibly tweak a bit for your new seating solution.
I ordered some acoustic panels for my Rear Wall Friday. Playing with the BACH and ORC i found I could lessen impulse response spikes at certain frequencies and address too much bass with playing with just s 2” acoustic panel and flipping painted canvas 1” thick wall art I had stuffed with rock wool. This trick flattened the impulse response and brought down bass too. By this weekend the four new 3.6 inch acoustic panels with air gap to address bass waves bouncing back should move me all the way in right direction. The ORC and Bacch 3D images improved as well as 2 channels of bypassed stereo during my trial of moving one panel and flipping wall art. Gone was the pseudo acoustic recording space info, or so I thought I was hearing. It is really just flutter echo off the, too close back wall. As Edgar said its a shame to have expensive equipment and be listening to your walls.
The Bacch4mac ORC is powerful tool to fix a room with passive and active correction.
Thanks, Allan. After a morning spent at a Stressless retailer, sitting on dozens of chairs, I undoubtedly declared this the right choice: winner for comfort and height (tweeter in the ears).
As always in these cases, it turned out that the Skyline model… is out of production! Blah!
There is no option to order one on demand, so I started a web search.
I wanted it black, there was no way to find it! My wife liked this in the “new cognac” color and it happened to be immediately available at the retailer we visited and seemed to match my Gold Note Mediterraneo perfectly. Can I contradict my wife? 2 days later, it landed in my room.
So stress free! Very nice product (in my all black room). And the sound is very pleasant having my ears finally level with the tweeter: a really big leap!
