I had infrequent issues with Sonore loosing connection as well. Right from Melco S100 optical out to it. I did not have it with the latest version of the OS that just came out. But when it went, it was several shutdowns / reboots to get it to connect again. I too did not like the web based software Optical Rendu. Just was a bit clunky to me. I tried the AirLens, Red, and Stack Audio. All had a very similar sound and only way to compare was I2S vs USB as jmart mentioned above. So yeah was it the cable/media that was the difference or device? hard to tell. In the end I tried Eversolo A6 as sole streamer via USB (Omega) to MKII and it was very very good. Plus the software killed the others by far.
