LPS-1.2 powering your ultraRendu?
Teddy Pardo…
My Ultradigital is still under the Xmas tree but I’ve tested out the Sbooster Mk2 on the Ultrarendu into the SGCD and there is a very noticeable improvement over Mk1. Much more dynamic and transparent… harmonic balance is better and a much better ease to the music.
My plan is to have Sbooster Mk1 power Ultrarendu and Sbooster Mk2 power Ultradigital.
The 7.5v Mk2 Ultras are on order for both but probably won’t arrive for a few weeks still.
Yes, one supply each.
Good question. The UltraRendu, the UltraDigital and their respective linear power supplies arrived in one box. They have barely 24 hours of power-on time.
I’ve got a playlist of various bitrates (redbook, high-res, and DSD) and genre (rock, pop, metal, soul, classical) of music on repeat in Roon. I figure I’ll leave them playing for a few days before doing any serious evaluations.
Then I’ll try the UltraRendu direct to the DS via USB.
Nice - good idea.
If you have not removed the Bridge II card from the DS, you should try it. I noticed an improvement in sound quality when I removed it.
Ditto.
Yup. I’ll definitely do that after I break in the UltraRendu and UltraDigital. I’ll also be going back to Snowmass V1 from V2.
Went back to Snowmass V1. It almost didn’t work and I thought I had screwed up my DS, 'til I remembered the HDMI cable should be unplugged from the I2S port. Then V1 installed without a hitch. Haha…
This is one album where I2S sounds unquestionably better than the Bridge II, at least in my system.
Transients and plucks on the acoustic guitar are more well defined and dynamic with Roon on the UltraRendu going to the UltraDigital, then to an I2S input on the DS compared with Roon to the Bridge II.
Ultradigital with Sbooster Mk2 is one of the biggest improvements i’ve heard in my systems with the SGCD.
More holographic, effortless, the system appears to be louder at low volume (most likely due to the increased harmonic detail i’m hearing), and its just better in every way.
I’ve had good success with the Sonore Ultradigital as well. Mine is currently not in use, since I moved my microrendu to my desktop setup. Good product for sure.
Issue with my Ultradigital and SGCD, DSD both Native and A+ conversion sounded strange and wrong.
Jesus suggested I turn all Dip switches in the Ultradigital off except # 7, this is different than the posted recommendations from Sonore for PS audio which # 6, #7, #8 all on.
This fixed the sound and now DSD , PCM -> DSD via A+ with Sox upsample, both cases, DSD CRUSHES pcm.
Did you try what Jesus suggested?
Edit: I responded before you added the last paragraph.
Sorry I got a little excited and posted without the actual update in sound. Edit above
Pcm -> DSD with A+ vs PCM straight sound like 2 different DACs.
Edit: all DSD is sent to SGCD as Native DSD, no DoP.
Did 5 turn on the sample rate info ?
I’m not entirely sure what no.5 does. I do know one of the dip switches affects relative polarity. For example, when playing DSD files, I somehow prefer the sound with phase “out” on my DS Sr versus phase “in.”
