Spotify HiFi tier (finally) launching to offer CD-quality streaming

Upon watching Mr. Darko, I am left wondering what Spotify will offer “specifically” that is of benefit to the demanding listener that will make me move from Qobuz. Time will tell.

Their ‘personalized’ playlist curation is pretty darn good. I keep it around for just this…and until now would then add the albums I liked in Tidal/Qobuz, if they are there.

For those not aware of LMS, Logitech Media Server, it’s still alive and well and there are many plugins including Spotify which allows one to send audio flux into stereo system in many different ways. I doubt Octave will support any of the open ‘standards’.

That’s a good question.

Sort of doubt it would convert any Apple Music customers but maybe I am wrong.

I am flabbergasted by the total radio-silence at Spotify about their Hifi CD lossless tier. Not a peep since their February announcement that they would launch ‘later in 2021’. We are rapidly running out of 2021 now. So I hope for either a launch the coming weeks, or at least some announcement? That it is delayed or cancelled? The suspense is killing me…

I think, by that announcement, Spotify convinced some subscribers to remain on baord with with the hope of moving to lossless in the near future! Also, they may have gained some new subscribers who were keen on getting lossless streaming for less! However, it seems to me that rivalry between the big players would drive prices down!

I gave up waiting and am currently trying Qobuz. Sounds good but my interface with it is awkward. Given that I rarely used Spotify and the latest bruhaha over their corporate choices I have cancelled my pay subscription to Spotify. Probably will pay for Qobuz for a while to see if I use it enough to justify the cost.

Thumbs up to that. I haven’t used it in ages as I’ve moved completely over to Tidal/Qobuz with Roon. My youngest uses Tidal and Bandcamp.

Just need to convince my oldest, who’s in college, to ditch spotify, move his playlists to one of the others, and we’ll be good.

He’s super smart, but he’s tech averse and sound-quality agnostic. Might be a tough sell!

I use Spotify every day. I also have Amazon HD and Qobuz. Will probably drop Amazon and run with the other two. It would be great if they go hi res, but won’t matter a ton to me either way. Algorithms are just too good and ease of use as well.
