Good Day,
I was listening my recording with my Bowers headphones, I was listening my ripping, and after an hour, I experience some listening fatigue. I t happen a few time.
I made some search, and when you listen with headphone, old recording, before the remaster and modern streaming, Music was recorded left and right.
It was recorded to recreate, by using stereo, the felling of stage music are create the ambience of a band or orchestra playing together. It help positioning musician
When you listen that kind of music on headphone, at one point, your brain fart. For him, it is like listening two sources of music together and your brain work hard to make sense of all of this input.
So to promote, walkable music and headphone, joint stereo recording was invented!
Still Hifi, but there is a merge in between, so your brain will hear one source, instead of two source. No listening fatigue, it sort create an improved experience in headphone. and you could listen music all day long…!(what a market for publicity, long hour of music, so ioutube is now a iouca$$h!)
The joint stereo, it is still HiFi, and for the common listener, it has low impact, so, when you listen your stereo, it make sense, an not really need a voicing, just drop left and right speaker with a shadow in the middle and you have average good background music.
But when you go HiFi, and trying to recreate, the original stereo listening experience with modern recording, it’s like having a middle shadow speaker, all the time. So it make harder to pinpoint where is the drummer, the bass or whatever are the musician position.
So with modern recording or modern streaming, some of them are in fact joint stereo recording.
Your HiFi speaker became a huge pair of headphone, not much sound after the extreme right of left. The sound is good, but not glowing, like the original from the 60’ or 70’ or 80’ or before that.
Old recording are easier to identify musician position and the illusion of listening a real symphonic orchestra.
So,
Walkman, address the need for transportable music;
CD address dark background (no noise groove or phone hiss], huge bass and ripping music
In the old iTunes, Apple brought the choice of joint stereo ripping and listening.
As the size of huge headphone energy guzzler decrease, the recording and remastering with joint stereo, cut the supper high and the extreme lower bass, fill the full spectral, so with tinnier headphone and pin phone it recreate the illusion.
this help having more hour on battery and price market headphone [it was there for a time, but now: paying 2000$ for a dime headphone, what’s the deal, for a full compress sound with merge stereo, please explain, I don’t get it (its a rhetoric)]
Profit increase as downsizing the machine! welcome to the machine!
Now some streaming services are all in for joint stereo, yup no more original and now AI music!
So did, you know, that what your are listening is joint stereo? and old CD and Lp’s are more true to the original, that streaming services?
After thinking about it, where are old, tinnitus and have to much stuff to listen all of it before the grave. All we enjoy, is dinosaur stuff, and next gen, have no idea what is a rotary phone and amber screen, HDMI, ethernet, etc. They just care for there pocket disposable music and game of the day, podcast and tictac of the day!
So since i learn that, I cherish more my old 1980 CD ripping and old Lp’s!
what about you guys, did you know? we pay 20$ a month for compare to original a disposable garbage recording music?
PS joint stereo, more hour on the phone, so more marketing, more publicity and no listening fatigue, and yeah, it suppose to help your hear… [oups my next thread, is the noise cancelling is really easy on your ear? does a reverse noise is no noise or it arm your ear anyhow?[
