Miles Davis Quintet “Freedom Jazz Dance–The Bootleg Series Vol. 5”
Disc 1.
Okay, the Blu-Spec CD2 version came in from Japan yesterday; I now have all six volumes of the series in either Blu-Spec CD or Blu-Spec CD2 and the Miles Davis collector in me relaxed just a bit more.
My wife describes Art Pepper’s sound as “too busy”, but I can’t get enough of his music this week. This one has been on repeat play. Any Pepper fans here want to share some recommendations for my next listen?
I have the SACD of this. . .and have the material in several other places as well . . . including a French CBS boxed series in both LP and CD format of the Columbia Ellington material from '47 to '52–all wonderful recordings for a great variety of music and for excellent sound.
There are a lot of incredible recordings recorded even earlier. . . it amuses me that this release on an audiophile label has intrigued so many as I think it’s excellent but there are so many others! I love jazz from '17 on up. . . and the sonics of many as well.
Right now, a side-step into the new Dylan bootleg box. Started early today and got through the first two discs. Not a riveting as other volumes in the series have been for me, but I expect more from the next three.
Stan Getz Quartet with Astrud Gilberto “Live at the Berlin Jazz Festival 1966” Lost Recordings 2 cd set, disc 1
I love “Getz a Go Go” with this outfit and this one is also very very good.
On another board a prominent poster is arguing that this series is “bootleg” but I can’t see Diavolet being involved in something so risky, nor Sony distributing them if this were the case.
Ron considering you enjoy Ellington Master Pieces you may as well like Duke Ellington Uptown on Pure Pleasure Vinyl. Sonically not as strong as Master Pieces, but the album is a “hoot” and should be readily available.
