SFJazz Collective “Works of Horace Silver Plus Original Compositions” disc 1
Cootie Williams “1945-1946” Chronogical Classics cd
Picked this up last month–haven’t heard most of this ever before. It’s rougher around the edges than the Ellington Orchestra and a bit more R&Bish. I’m digging it.
A younger me would be baffled that I am really getting into this vocal duo.
Jackie & Roy “In the Spotlight”
Jackie & Roy “Sweet and Lowdown”
What a band!
- Alto Saxophone, Flute – Anthony Ortega
- Bass – Al McKibbon
- Drums – Frank Butler
- Guitar – Barney Kessel
- Vibraphone – Larry Bunker
Recorded live at the Ice House in Pasadena at 15ips. The liner notes say it all: “…all the excitement of that live original performance is captured here. Although the original tape contains minor technical flaws, such as fade outs, both horns on one side, these in no way distract from the total experience of a true genius caught in top form.”
Another beautiful Pure DSD256 transfer from the original master tape. Note: Distortions and some abrupt endings heard are on the original master tape. More information and download here.

Cassandra Wilson “Coming Forth by Day” Legacy/Sony Blu-Spec CD2
A very interesting tribute to Billie Holiday. Production, production, production. . . but effective.
