Dirk, the Sten Sandell Trio is a new one for me. I dig the energy and playfulness exhibited on Standing Wave. Considering the trio includes Jonathon Berthling and Paal Nilssen-Love, I was surprised I had not been exposed to them previously. I see Sten has also done one with John Butcher. Need to dig into these more. Strokes will be next up, and additional Billie Holiday will have to wait.

Standell’s cds on the Sofa label are great.

Check out this review of ‘Oval’ (Intakt label)…

@jghughes2 and @Dirk, a HUGE thank-you to both of you. This Sten Sandell aligns with my listening preferences. I’m a bit embarrassed that I had not heard it until today. I have remedied that by adding the following to my Qobuz queue:

These should get me by until I order the CDs.

That’s a good one, but Data Lords for me was a bit of a disappointment.

I too disliked Data Lords initially. I understand her positions re. Copyright and artist’s control of their material…but I couldn’t marry that knowledge with the music. After multiple listens I find myself enjoying the album….but I like her other early material more.

My sentiments as well. Someday I may return to it, but then there’s the opportunity costs. My communications with her during the “project” was she needed to lighten up a bit, as she was taking herself too seriously.

Half of this one last night and the second half this morning. My listening companion Fiona the miniature dachshund does NOT like this one; the everywhere, all at once drumming from the two drummers and the freaky deaky guitar bits just don’t let her relax. But I like it.

Nicole Herzog Septet featuring Adrian Mears “Time will Tell”

Fiona likes this one a lot more.

Nicole’s a lovely lady with a nice voice . . . just a bit less girly than Blossom Dearie’s.

Charles Mingus “Tijuana Moods” Classic Records gold cd

My favorite sounding version of this awesome album. This one and “East Coasting” battle in my mind as the favorite Mingus album.
