Hailing from Chicago with a 2019 limited CD release, 100 copies, A Light Sleeper Distinction and (A Ballet in Six Parts) clearly falls within the creative music category, shying away from strict jazz notions. Reminds me ever so slightly of the 1960’s experiment Jazz Composer’s Orchestra.

Aerophonic Records (run by the great saxophonist Dave Rempis) is having a sale to celebrate their 50th release. I’ve never purchased any of their digital releases, but 50 bucks for 7 albums gave me the incentive. First one, looks great on paper:

Dave Rempis 50th CD release event in progress now for those that may be interested. In addition to purchasing the above, Ballister Clocking the Wheel with bassist Luke Stewart joining the Ballister trio consisting of Dave Rempis - reeds, Fred Longberg-Holm - bass, and Paal Nilssen-LOve percussion, I opted in for the digital download special, 17 for $100. I already have all of Dave’s CD releases.
This has been on my mind since it was announced. I’ve streamed it several times, and the performance is very good. However, to pay $50 plus, a premium price IMO, for a vinyl copy is outrageous considering sonically it is a dud. The recent Bill Evans again falls in this same category, nice performance with sonics falling short, and the asking price is unwarranted. Resonance Records, and George Klaibin and Zev Feldman seem to be hyping the Record Store Day releases. I understand certain collectors would grab these regardless of price and sonics, but I noticed post RSD many stores still have copies.
