Sunlight: Sound Impressions

I had tried this before, but discarded it again. It didn’t bring any advantage over the bridge, it sounded better to me over the bridge. That’s why I don’t have a PI there at the moment. The devices are also too expensive for such crafts  But thank you for the tip.
The next problem is that I can’t go back to WINDOM now because I don’t have the files anymore and they’re not available in the download area…

I am pretty sure @jamesh or @Elk will have a link to the windom files.

DSD_Windom_401.zip (766.7 KB)

I was listening to Styx - Cornerstone (recording is nothing special),
first at a Rock Cafe with Analgue LP, Luxman amp - Altec Speaker system.
Then, came back home, re-listened In Windom it sounded flat and shallow.
And here came Sunlight…
Just awesome! like a jump from a cheap DAC to a High-end DAC, not that Windom was mediocre… It’s just that Sunlight lifted the bar a several notches.
Yes, as several folks noted, I do see a difference in the highs, but not annoying.
Probably, will do some minor adjustments in the system, but for now, will dive into Sunlight.
Congrats to Ted and the PSA team!

haha, no. Altec was at a Cafe. At home, I’m listening to Vintage Tannoy IIILZ with First Watt SIT2

I see now, didn’t have my contact lenses in earlier.

It’s been 4 days now since I downloaded Sunlight on Monday and while I know you guys haven’t exactly been waiting with bated breath for my impression, here goes anyway…

My initial reaction was kinda “meh” and I didn’t really understand almost everyone’s very positive, seemingly hyperbolic evaluation. It sounded good but then so did Windom which I still feel sounds very good. But as time has worn on I’m slowly coming to the conclusion this swan song for the DS DAC may be its finest moment.

I’ve liked and owned Conrad Johnson equipment for almost 30 years now and it just dawned on me this morning that in some ways I view Sunlight the same way as the CJ preamps, amps and integrated amp that have been part of my system. There is an almost organic rightness to the sound. Neither CJ nor Sunlight may tick the box of absolutely every audiophile criterion but I at least do not seem to care because the music is what I’m now listening to and not the equipment itself or the operating system.

My hat is off to both Ted and Paul for their devotion to bringing the best they could to us given real world constraints. Bravo! :champagne:

A post was merged into an existing topic: Sunlight: Installation

Hello from France
After testing Windom which I did not like at all, I stayed on Snowmass which I found more suitable for my system. I find Sunligth a perfect name for this latest firmware version. I find things never heard before. I gained precision without any aggressiveness, everything is detailed and the soundstage is sumptuous. Nice job!

I thought I’d check this thread before installing Sunlight on my DS Senior, but could not find it.

So I decided to start it and invite all early adopters to share …

Thanks.
