Theoretica Applied Physics BACCH

,

I listened to Edgar and bought the M-1 he was selling. Perhaps I will regret. But his advice saying the ac power and stock USB cables, or powering the Babyface via USB was adequate and I wouldn’t hear improvements. They were wrong and easily disproved in a highly resolving system set up. I am glad I didn’t buy the adio to get something I needed to upgrade. But it is clear all his testing and new development is done with the Mac Mini powered devices first.

I have just confirmed the video call for next Friday, July 7 at 3:00 p.m. Anxiety eats me

BACCH technology is a much better upgrade than even the Matrix.

I’m hoping uBACCH is nearly as good when it comes out for my Dutch & Dutch 8cs. I really like the idea of using my ears and the slider to get the filter. This could be so much easier than REW for adding room correction. I couldn’t get on the beta but I am set up for early release when it comes out.

I like room correction in my 8cs over convolution filters in Roon because I want to add a turntable directly to the 8cs and still have their excellent room correction.

I spent time switching bacch on and off. Its just too hard to live without with soundstage only forward of the speakers. The instrument accoustics ar so much better as are accompanying vocalist. Its hard to enjoy my system in the sweetspot wih bacch switched off.

Did you get the mac DC power card install done? That was a huge leap for me

I ordered a mac mini m2 with 16 gb of memory and a 256 gb ssd drive. When I become familiar with the mac mini I will order the BACCH intro software.

Bacch4mac question?

What is your audio output setting for your DAC? I found this setting is the most open sounding with DS Mk2

Wow! I just tried it. I think this setting sounds best too.

BTW, I am very intrigued by the power supply modification you did to your Mac mini. I checked with the place where I take my Mac stuff for service and they said they couldn’t do the modification. I don’t know anyone else who is qualified. I don’t trust myself with this stuff. Oh well.

Was yours on BFP And DAC previously or just Babyface? They both sound dimilar but the primary Play Interface seems lots better.

The card was easy install. Their is a guy in Florida that converts a min to run DC or A/c. The kit I bought was pretty simple with the disassembly video. It is as much an improvement as output of Primary Play Device.

I’ve been switching back and forth on different tracks. Depending on the track one or the other sounds better on my system. Over all I mostly like the BFP and DAC. Better separation. I have the DSDMK2 dac.

I will have to try both output settings on. I only noticed clearer wider soundstage with the primary play interface.

Perhaps a Head Tracking filter set with both outputs needs to be tried.

I sent an email to Edgar to help explain differences but have not heard reply.

I have been using the auto configure script for BFP& DAC

Same observations here. I’ll be interested in hearing what Edgar says. Thanks

I did headtracking filters comparison between primary play interface audio out ababyface pro audio out. Changed audio settings in the app for audio output as well as Mini. They really are two different presentations. The Baby facepro might have and advantage for audio out. The primary play interface has higher level output.
Stll waiting for Edgar to weigh in on differences. I feel the BFP&CAC auto configuration settings were optimized for the Baby facepro USB out. I get more recording space with the primary plsy interface uSB out. But some songs it is toomuch of a good thing.

Yes, I think they are optimized for the Babyface Pro as well.

Never mind.

Hello, I bought a 2018 Mac Mini Intel i5 and finally managed to get it to dual boot MacOS and Windows 11. I had to pack a Win-11 install into a Win-10 ISO. But it finally worked. Unfortunately, ATMOS playback… which is known not to work in MacOS… also did not work when running Windows on the Mac Mini. If anyone else has succeeded, please let me know.

Anyway, the point was to get a machine for BACCH4Mac, starting with the Intro mode. I am still ready to try that tomorrow. I am curious though that I am not seeing much in the way of FAQs about how to feed music to the BACCH program that is not Roon sourced. I have Foobar ready and some other apps on the Mac Mini. Though the sound quality over USB from the Mac Mini to my DS MK2 is pretty crap. It hurt my ears. So I switched back to USB from my ASRock NUC-knockoff running Euphony Stylus. I was hoping to send from this Euphony HQPlayer machine to the Mac Mini via HQPlayer NAA. But results trying that after hours of other efforts were not so successful. I will try again tomorrow.

Any other software recommendations? I know the one about adapting the Mac Mini power supply hardware to linear. Would cost more than I paid for the Mac Mini itself. But is not much and I can do that later. But any near-term non-Roon software pointers would be appreciated.

query: what application do you use to see the Mac Mini screen on the IPad?

The latest iOS allows you to move a monitor screen to ipad. I use ipad liitle though since the mini’s HDMI port hooks to my HT processor so I can display Roon screen from mini better fidelity than using Apple TV ipad share. I just control roon from my iPhone.
