Theoretica Applied Physics BACCH

,

Yeah, and today is Prime Day. Lots of tasty items being offered me based on my prior searches. Not just from Amazon but all the competitors are serving me up offers for soundcard interface devices.

Speaking of which, Edgar confirmed that I can use a simpler MOTU M4 to get the microphone signals to BACCH4Mac instead of the RME Babyface. I am using Existential Audio’s BlackHole Virtual Audio Driver for output over USB to the DS MK2 instead.

Incidentally, when downloading BlackHole from GitHub, there is a voluntary request for a $10 donation. I was not so keen on entering my credit card details. So I confirmed with Devin Roth of Existential Audio that I could PayPal a donation to him. I did not ask, but as this might cost him a matching donation via GitHub, I more than doubled his recommended donation amount.

Fair enough—there may be bean counters at work beneath the surface, but this hardly seems blatant compared to all the other horrible things I see. I recognize that consumer protection is hardly a thing in America; I wonder whether we’ve somehow benefited more from what little trickles down from EU policies than our own.

In any case, you have me confused. Regarding Tidal for macOS, if you were talking about the native desktop app, I don’t believe Tidal has ever attempted to offer that on the Mac App Store. Are you by chance saying that it is possible to run the iOS Tidal app on macOS? Please do clarify, as I would be very interested in knowing if I could obtain Tidal for the Mac Mini through the App Store.

Here I need to fess up that I have not been a Mac user since the 1980s. My Apple experience these days is based on iPhone use. I went to Tidal.com and under Support went to Download and selected the right Mac Tidal app for my Mac based on the chip. So, yeah, apologies, this probably is not even coming from the Mac app store. At least it worked though in getting Tidal onto my Mac for streaming to BACCH4Mac. For Disney+ I received a message that it is only available here on Mac via a webpage like on Safari.

I expect my basic assertion is not entirely empty. To me, Apple makes it harder to find non-Apple products that do work on a Mac, than Windows makes it to find the same non-Apple products for a PC.

Searching for Tidal in Mac store gave me this:

Searching for Tidal in Windows store gave me this:

Searching on Tidal for a Mac app gave me this:

Turns me off from giving Apple business. But I did not have a choice here. At least I did not buy a new product from Apple.

Wow…looks really interesting. I wonder how much of the real effect this yeilds… 50%?

It must use the reduction of processing introduced in bacch13-dSP says you can use with soundbars and TV. Our stuck with limitations of your sound card I suppose. 3D is likely pretty good. Probably not crystal clear defined images of bacch4mac audiophile edition that’s been tweaked with DC LPS or big dollar USB but let’s one sample the technology. They offer a $5 license shift package to other devices.

Looks like they are running a 15% off special with use of the code EARLYBACCH15. $60 doesn’t go far in this hobby but hey…

This is where a DDC comes in handy. Feed your computer to your DAC in main system. Just curious how much of the real BACCH you get for that $400. Its not that expensive to try. Or right to DAC if that works.

14 day free trial… why not!!!

Edgar told me that product is NOT available for consumers. I was sad. It looks like it is but he was firm that it is not.

who is it for then? demo for dealers to carry? He needs a BACCH in a BOX (less than $4k) dig in and dig out that is Roon ready. or even a plug in for Roon he can charge and the core does the work. Pay for someone to come in and do the measurements and apply curve in Roon.

The only issue I see is Bacch works bes after you play around and optimize acoustic panels and cables. Quite the iterative process. Doing things a benig as replacing stock cables with audiophile versions gives a different frequency response and cross talk cancellation filter.

Mine are improved significantly from original room and equipment configuration. Unfortunately two channel acoustic panel accepted set ups rely on diffusers that Bacch doesn’t appreciate. Most people create a false since of space with diffusion for two channel. The diffusion cause audible smear with Bacch that replicates the recording space.

He said it is for manufacturers, like Dutch and Dutch who want to add it to products.

Sounds like you need a Digital Audio Workstation for plug in to work. So apple Garage Band Would work. Or some mixing software. I doubt they check credentials too close anyone could be developing hardware or music.

It’s actually a plugin.

And as a plug-in, I take it the BACCH Labs item is not upgradeable like the “proper” BACCH4Mac application. Though they could always offer discounts for upgrade products.

Looks like it does not have the separate left and right channel test function of uBACCH in the full application. Although they have the same old video from four years ago on the webpage. It does not look the same… We never got the second promised video either, I do not think.

What are you referring to when you say “uBACCH”? BACCH Labs is UBACCH.
uBACCH is a plugin used with a program you likely don’t have. It only allows you to pick the speaker setup approximation you have. It does not use a microphone. It is a completely separate thing from BACCH4MAC and the BACCH-SP series. It is a completely separate company.

As I stated before, it is not intended for Y O U. Yet you keep mentioning it. I don’t know why. They are not similar. You don’t get microphones or microphone use on a $399 product that is not for you anyway.

uBACCH is also in BACCH-dSP (the full and „proper“ original application) from the Theoretica store tho. Of course it looks a lot „sharper“ visually in the original. It looks to me too like the version from BACCH Labs is slightly watered down, without the left-right tuning.

It is the usual muddle, as the video they link in is four years old and obviously was done within the uBACCH of BACCH-dSP. I mention this as there might be confusion for folks who watch the video, but receive something different in a download.

Which, as you point out, also is not for me!!!

I give up.

Why me thick? All I am saying is, BACCH Labs is not only there to license BACCH-related spin-offs to other firms, it also is selling a limited BACCH product… uBACCH as a plug-in… online to retail customers. And I do not think it is “right” to link in a YouTube video displaying the “real”, “original” software. So I am just trying to advise folks googling the subject and reading online: “caveat emptor”.
