But it was not about DS MK2 modding. It was about modding associated with the BACCH4Mac set-up. Whatever. Guess that could be yet a different thread.
I agree it was about tweaking Bacch4Mac playback feeding DS Mk2 . Seemed relevant to this thread.
Apologies mate.
I am sorry, i did not understand the distinction.
Should I move them back? You could also start a new thread and i can move then there.
Again, I apologize for my mistake.
Ah heck, as long as no one complains on the DS MK2 modding thread, they can stay there. I kept a copy of the email notice with infos from Vmax anyway for myself. Thanks for folks patience all around.
Thanks for letting me know.
I understand that with the Intro you get a āU Bacch filter 3D Sound over speakers based on tape measurements.ā
The next step is āCustom BACCHĀ® 3D sound over speakers based on acoustic measurementsā.
Here the binaural ear-microphones measure:
-the position of the speakers and listener.
-the shape of your face / ears
Besides these two aspects, are the filters tuned e.g. the specific acoustic in your room?
If so, in what way?
Not really. I use an Audiolense XO filter for room correction. This is applied after the BACCH4Mac Audiophile in the MAC Mini using the Hang Loose Convolver. All BACCH4Mac measurements are to be made without any DSP Room Correction. Hope this helps.
The main reason I upgraded is that the Intro filters are approximations. The Audiophile filters are calibrated. I was responsible for the Metrology at a medical device manufacturer. I know how important proper calibrations can affect the end result.
I believe the Audiophile filters are affected by room issues and part of what they correct is those issues. Edgar has said it is better to try to solve room issues with absorption panels rather than diffusers. My BACCH-SP adio can load and use a custom room correction filter. I havenāt made one yet but I plan to do so.
I remember a post on this forum where a member indicated that Edgar was developing a room correction module or software add-on. I tried to find it but going through 800+ posts was too much. I already had room correction on my system before I purchased the BACCH4Mac software. I noticed a button in your photos for a Room Correction Filter. It had a note that it required the RC filter to be installed by Theoretica.
Yes sir, that is my understanding. The previous owner of mine had a room correction filter installed that can be activated with a tap on the screen. I have enabled it for giggles and it does change the sound. No doubt here.
I am curious if the BACCH-SP plays through the room correction, if enabled, when a filter is being created.
I wonder what would happen if you enabled your room correction into the BACCH and then created a filter. I imagine your graph of the filter would be quite different. Curious.
If you could feed the digital signal from your room correction device to the BACCH it would eliminate one digital to analog conversion.
Edgar told me to measure the room acoustics for the RC filter before BACCH4Mac. Then to send the output from the BACCH4Mac to the RC software. I am a pretty lazy audiophile (compared to most on this forum it seems) and just did what he suggested. I am too lazy to try out various scenarios. This is probably why I havenāt tried lots of various cables, and components. When I was younger I had more energy to do stuff like that!
@Nicktube just checking, any questions after @ganache ās reply? Because of travel matters, I do not have my system calibrated with the āproperā BACCH headphones. I used a pair of standard test microphones earlier this month until I luckily got one filter set with room windows closed and another with windows open done that did not have weird results. I just wonāt be home long enough in the coming months to do it right.
This video with Edgar explains the reasoning to have the right BACCH headphones a bit though: https://youtu.be/h-gUEZullCM
The BACCH4Mac Audiophile software allows you to load a calibration file for the microphones. Also you can calibrate the microphones, but Edgar would have to walk you through this step.
If you listen outside near field the binaural microphone filters will help with spikes caused by ear shape an room reflection and doing room acoustics improvements. I found absorption good on sidewalls but back wall which is close to my listening position doesnāt like absorption and it kills musicās live feel.
I run dsp prior to bacch filter measurements without room dsp the bacch results in a wider stage but center image isnāt right. I use Lyngdorf Room Perfect.
My brother in law was over tonight. It was fun watching his expressions and excitement with Bacch-dsp. He said now he canāt listen to music without it. He said I ruined music for him forever. The wifeās sister was convinced I was running my surround system. Which sounds good but it is no Bacch. Not even close. I offered to set up a Dutch and Dutch for him with uBacch
My absorption panels that will fit perfectly over my diffusers arrived. I am going to apply them to the back of the diffusers so I can choose. A new BACCH filter will be created. I canāt wait.
Have I mentioned how much I love my Magic Black Boxes? I should. They seem nice.
Thank you for checking in. I hear quite a lot of Bacch users have head tracking disabledā¦
Now I have a Windows laptop, where I can install U-Bacch for Windows, but this is a deadend in terms of upgrade capabilities.
On the other hand, the only reason I would want to upgrade is I can measure custom acoustic based filters. Iām trying to put a finger on how much added value custom filters have compared to intro.
Considering I donāt have a Mac (although second-hand ones are cheap) I also have to make provisions since my dac has limited inputs. So I canāt just take a trial to the Intro or audiophileā¦
Another reason to go BACCH4Mac vs. BACCH Labs for folks who like vinyl is that the RME Babyface interface also does analog to digital. My playback is 95% from files and 5% from streaming. So was not a factor for me. But I knew I needed more room correction. So I held my nose and went with the Mac Mini. I added a Linux server at the same time, so I feel OK on average with the equipment adds.
@Carousel - how are you physically connecting your vinyl subsystem to the Babyface Pro FS unit? Iām assuming you are going from a phono preamp. Are you using balanced or unbalanced cabling? If unbalanced, are you using one of the phone jack inputs with something like this?
The two little black boxes are doing as much as my 8 24x48 ceiling GiK panels at an eighth of the size.
