Is the Ghost Gold Lines a combination curve of L&R?

On the Pre ORC and the Measured charts, the ghost lines are pale versions of the Optimal curve lines. On the Optimal chart, they are Pre ORC lines. Partially transparent red looks gold. And black, grey. Let’s you compare Measured and Optimal easily for example.

Here is my Measured from the earlier post, but with the ORC filters added per Al’s other post, and the ā€œghost linesā€ clicked out per his slightly later post.

Just when you think it can’t get any better…

Edgar installed BACCH 14 / with ORC Optimal Room Correction this AM.

Please remember we have some $3k in GIK room treatments already.

ORC is a game changer, another multi step up in sonic quality.

Using BACCH w/ ORC you get that great analog sound we all are in search of.

Can’t wait to see what’s coming next. :sunglasses:

Just my thoughts,

Finally catching this wave. Just installed 14.0, and now waiting for my walk-thru with Edgar. Stoked to see what I’ll notice (having invested heavily in room treatments and treating based on professional measurements…even though the room measured well to begin with). Let the inner audio nerd run free!

Got mine up and running. This is definitely the next frontier of audio being conquered. Very impressed with what I am hearing.

Ok we’re in hog heaven…

We are listening to the streaming version and copied CD version of the Eagles greatest hits, an album we’ve listened to many, many times.

It sounds as good as we’ve ever heard it, back in the day we played the original album on an Oracle turntable, quad ESL speakers with decca ribbon tweeters and Hartley subwoofer.

We missed albums a little up to now, but no regrets anymore.

Qobuz / Roon 90,000,000 songs… so much music so little time!

BTW/ We have a Decware Zbit and ZRock II that really plays nicely with older albums that aren’t well produced. If you’re playing a well produced album they make them open up and you can’t stop listening.

How are the dynamics? Changed?

Fortunately, no. Tonality now is just right, without losing dynamics. Some other eq software adjusted the tonality similarly, but the music lost impact. I had to dial some parametric filters manually in Roon, with several compromises. ORC is completely different. I don’t know wether it is the filter design or the quality of the convolver, or both.

One side note: experiment with the Olive curve in ORC (if you haven’t already). A bit more bass. And the 3 BINs let you very easily compare the filters side by side.

Trying to lay things out. Where does the Mac mini fit in the audio chain for software only? Have a AirLens and a PST feeding a MK1. Trying to have things ready for my walk through tomorrow. Thanks!

What kind of music server do you use? Roon?

Yep. Roon

So I believe your airlens will become obsolete in your system.

You will install roon in your Mac mini (either the raat or the full roon). Then you will play to/from your macmini, route the audio through Bacch, and output USB to you DSD Dac.

In you PST, I believe you will go optical to the Babyface (do you have an optical cable at hand?), then from Babyface to the mini via USB, then through Bacch, then out to the dac via USB.

I hope I was able to make myself clear.

I just realized the PST does not have an optical out. I believe you will have to consult with Prof Edgar. Maybe a DDC from spdif coax/AES to spdif optical will be needed.

Wishing you the best of luck setting it up. And once you hear Bacch, there is no turning back.

Hello!
Was anyone successful at upgrading their Mac mini with a good external LPS?

Hi, welcome to the group! Yes, a number of us have TeraDak’s. Just search for the word TeraDak in this thread. Bear in mind, we now know a lot more than we did a year ago. So, sometimes, things that were mysteries then have been solved in the meantime in more recent posts. Note: My examples are with an i5 Mac Mini. But just about everyone else is running Apple silicon.

Going to try 14.0.2 update. I had one of the units that stuttered making ORC filters. I assumed it was bad connection with interconnects or digital cables. Still trying to find a ORC setting that doesn’t suck the bass dry in my room and cause the life to be sucked out of the dynamic baas heavy music. I used to enjoy with roomperfect dSP and XTC filter. ORC and XTC leave no bass you can feel. It is like playing music outside. Even a Timpani can’t overcome. Yes The highs and images increase. So does the tape or recording noise. Bass disappears. I guess one needs subs they can turn up after an ORC filter.

A flat response is not what Fletcher Munson or BK curves are about and have some validity is what I found.

Playing my preamp at twice its normal volume will not bring back the missing bass energy and amps puts put measly 12 watts which would be 1200 or more with any other signal.

ORC shaves off 30 dB of 40 and 50Hz bass.

I am hopelessly stuck. I tried to do the 14.0.2 update and I learned once again I am useless on a Mac.

I’m stuck too! Waiting for Edgar’s help.
