Universal Blu-Ray Suggestions

Thanks for the info. You know for $300 the Sony is a pretty good deal and that is more in line with what I can afford right now. I don’t really care about the no display thing as my current blu-ray (an old Samsung) does not have that either.

One question though, have you had any problems with the picture freezing up? I’ve heard of some folks complaining about that happening when watching movies.

I have the $300 Sony, which was $200 on sale when I bought it. I have heard that some do have issues with the machine, but I have not. Mine has been stable and super-reliable. I have since loaned it to my sister (sorry @aangen can’t compete with you, lol), as I now have the Panasonic 9000.

Our 203 spends it’s time gathering dust. I would be surprised if it has 40 hours on it. I keep it because it’s installed.

You don’t watch 4k blu ray disks?

I have not had any issues with the picture freezing up. The only issue I have had is sometimes the disk would get stuck in the drawer. There is a procedure for getting it out which has worked every time. Other than that it has been very stable.

The Sony goes on sale every now and then at Best Buy, so you can get it cheaper than $300 if you are patient.

I tried that for a short while. But, for me it was a bit of a hassle. I really don’t want to own discs, I rarely watch a movie more then once. That left renting, and the hassles that come with that. “Late fees” might as well be my middle name.

With the latest upscaling in the NVidia Shield TV Pro and the fantastic picture on the Sony AR65A90J, I think the picture quality we are getting is fantastic and don’t miss the 4K off a disc.

I have a similar tv, a 65" LG 4k OLED, and BBC’s Planet Earth II and BBC’s Blue Planet II sold me on 4k Blu Ray…now I can’t stop, lol

The Blue Planet on 4K is fantastic on my Panasonic OLED 65”. Also Murder on the Orient Express is fabulous as well. 4K streaming from the Google TV whilst pretty good does not compare with the Panny disk player, not to mention the audio is better as well.

Is that the recently released Panasonic OLED?

No. Sadly we don’t get Panasonic TV’s down under anymore. I have the Panasonic FZ1000 65”. Pana could not compete with LG and Samsung on price even though the PQ was a lot better. Most people don’t care about that but just buy size and headline specs.
