Nice. What are you using for a chassis?

The chases was built by Factory Five Racing. Not an exact recreation of the old 65 Shelby Daytona Coupe but made to resemble one and use a modern tube chassis that features double wishbone suspension with an independent rear suspension.

 great photo, @FRO

Dedicated camera or special settings on phone to get blurred background?

What tires did you choose?

I went with Bridgestone Potenza’a since they were less than 1/2 the price of Michelins. The Potenza’a actually get very high ratings despite their low cost, and I don’t track my 911.

I shot this with my iPhone 16Pro and ran through PS with Lens Blur. Pretty amazing how good cell phone cameras have progressed!

Thanks!

Good, solid choice.

Maybe but the wizard still needs to know how to wield the wand.

I had the Potenza’s on my CTS-V the rubber seemed very soft on mine and didn’t last long with every day driving which for me is once or twice a week during the spring and summer months. I went with the Michelin Pilot sport cup 3’s they cost more but have already out lasted the Potenza’s they replaced.

Yeah, I had a new car come with them in 2008, so I’m sure it was a different model tire back then. Still, I killed the Bridgestone Potenza’s in 3 months. Granted, there were about a dozen days of autoX in those three months, but r comps would have held up better for me. Hopefully they hold up better now.

p.s. If you ever want to get side eye at a dealership service center, go ahead and ask them about any type of tire warranty coverage for only lasting ~3K miles.

I have always used N-Spec tires on my Porsches.
Here’s a paragraph from the TireRack’s N-Spec explanation:

“It is also important to know that while Porsche N-specification tires have been fine tuned to meet the specific performance needs of Porsche vehicles, the tire manufacturers may also build other tires featuring the same name, size and speed rating as the N-specification tires for non-Porsche applications. These tires may not be branded with the Porsche N-specification because they do not share the same internal construction and/or tread compound ingredients as the N-specification tires. Using tires that are not N-specific is not recommended and mixing them with other N-specification tires is not permissible.”

Wow, I love those vintage car, today, they all look the same, Only a few still have a presentation look, like a porche, etc

Same in HiFi, you buy box now, Except few revival, like Quad, etc.

The painter reached out to ask for my final paint color but I still have not decided. I’m not making any progress really, I just go around in circles. Please give me your opinion. You get extra points if you give me specific paint colors from cars I could give to my painter.

The car is a recreation of a 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. All of the 6 original cars were painted guardsmen blue with white stripes and meatballs. Honestly, I’ve always thought they looked killer but I put in a modern motor with AC and modern wheels/tires, so I’m not really going for 100% authentic. I love the car so I built my own, however, I’m not trying to pretend I have one of the originals. I had played around with the idea of doing a more modern blue with pearl in it, but I have seen a number that just look wrong to me when people try to make their own blue for the Cobras, so I’m kinda scared to do this.

If I was to pick a color of a modern car that I think would look good over the giant hips and lovely curves of the Cobra Daytona Coupe, I think BMW’s Twilight Purple Pearl Metallic would be stunning. Ever since I saw that color I have thought about it. While a few people I told this idea to loved it, more people have not. I’m pretty sure I’d have a hard time selling a purple Cobra down the line and it would cost me at that point. I don’t know, I think it would look amazing but I get purple is not for everyone. Especially since I have bronze wheels and would want to do a bronze stripes and meatballs to match.

Below I have added pictures of an original, one in a modern blue I like but wish was a bit lighter, and a couple of the purple I like. I’m also tempted by a gray with a bit of green in it. Carroll Shelby had a Cobra painted like this that looked good to me, but it was a normal cobra without stripes and the coupes look funny without stripes and the meatball to me.

I’m sure it’s heresy but I’ve always been a fan of BRG. But if Mazda can get away with it, why not. What color on that car makes your heart skip a beat? Anything else is just another color.

Do you have pics of the wheels?

I love BRG or IRG, but I did see a build with it and it just did not work on this car for me. I think it could be that I expect to see a Jag E-Type and the Daytona coupe proportions are similar, but off that throws it off for me. I’m wondering if I’ve just seen the original so much at this point that modern shades of blue just don’t look right to me. I’m not sure.

I really need to take more pictures and spend some time getting some better shots considering how much work went into this. I took the first picture when I first got the wheels and the second picture is with the suspension lifted up so I could get it on the trailer to the painter.

I prefer contrast. My other heart stopping color is certain shades of yellow but I’m not sure how I feel about it paired with bronze.
