No way! It sounds like nothing less than an updated engine will solve my inevitable headaches. At this stage of life, I don’t want to deal with my cylinders scoring and the wrong pistons, etc. I’d rather cut and run now. But I feel lucky that the car is low miles and mint. I’m sure I can sell it without too much pain.
How are BMW’s?
Really? I would expect a C5 Z06 to be within two or three inches of a Porsche.
Softened in handling since the BMWs of a generation ago. But still nice machines.
No major reliability problems of which I am aware.
Why am I so depressing??? I have no personal experience with BMWs… my buddy, a long time BMW enthusiast said he would not own a newer one outside of warrenty… but I have no data to support that.
Peace

Dude–Just stand either directly behind or in front of one of these things. My friend had his 67 next to his Z06 and the Z06 looked twice the width. I know, could have been an illusion but wow it looks wide.
Yeeeesh!!! I guess Toyota is the only way to go…
Ps-----One car I have always regretted selling was my 1967 1602. Then it was eat or …not. So the BMW went. Waaaaaaaaaa!
What’s that vanos thing?
Not surprising, a 1967 is seven-plus inches more narrow than a modern Porsche.
Cars have all gotten bigger. The C5 is ~ three inches wider than a 996. (I looked it up.)
Hey Bruce–What do you think of the Toyota 86?
In some cases, 3 more inches is better, no?
I’ll never forget the feeling of the 1602’s ability to stick to a bumpy surface. It blew my mind.
I’m not sure what you mean.
Another data point: A 2018 911 Carrera S is about 1/2" narrower.
I just read that article. It has all the feel of a piece written by a 14 year old, living in mommie’s attic.
My 535 went 320,000 miles. Engine never out. The irritant was the plastic radiator but other than that it was worth whatever i paid for it. We loved that car. It was driven very hard but meticulously maintained.
My ex wife is driving a 2002 325i with 150K and it looks and drives as new–not a rattle or squeak. I just replaced the valve cover gasket for her. Since, the engine is bone dry. It’s a brilliant piece of kit.
“not sure what I mean”? Really? About the 3 inches?
Oy. The 18 Carrera brings it into focus. it’s obviously perspective. For whatever reason, the Vette of that era looks very wide to me. Maybe it’s that my eyes line up vertically. Djever see Men In Black?
OK - built this from scratch in a few years… she drives it every day and loves me for it… has yellow out-fits… happy wife more coin in stereo gear…
my wife in the yellow of course… As a point of fact, my wife’s birthday is tomorrow…
that’s all the pics I can share, made a pact w/ @Elk that I would not go car nuts…
