In the late 60s - early 70s he was the troubadour on Braden’s Week and its Esther Rantzen successor That’s Life. My sister in particular loved him and has his albums. My favourite amongst his songs was ‘The Castleford Ladies Magical Circle’. When I first got Qobuz I listened to a ‘Best Of …’ compilation of his work, and thought it stood up very well. This was before I started posting here.
New on Qobuz. 24/96. Another ‘duty’ listen. I normally find the Bach Sonatas and Partitas to be a bit dry and intellectual, but Ms Hoppe manages to put enough expression into them to make them more involving, Sound is OK i.e. not exceptional but in no way interfering with appreciation of the music. She plays a Stradivarius so perhaps I should have been paying more attention to the violin tone. An above-average rendition. No back cover image available.

I do remember That’s Life, of course, so maybe I did see Jake T then, but I was pretty small, so probably more interested in building Lego creations (with added batteries and wires and bulbs etc.)
Are you familiar/aware of the 50s/60s/70s Scottish folk duo; ‘Robin Hall and Jimmie MacGregor’! Jake Thackray would pop up on their TV Show. Broadcast on STV ( you’d more than likely be tuned into your regional area TV station - pre digital world. I don’t know if it was broadcast south of the border.?
I do remember most of what @chrisj1948 said/details and the stuff I’m unfamiliar with I will always defer to Chris…good bloke, limitless knowledge that one would come expect from the oldest living man…!
No spinning today.! Sister-in-laws funeral - wake/meal…
At least it’s local. The last two (family) funerals were closer to London.
My condolences.
