They have been getting regular play in my system since I discovered them through the Radio Paradise Mellow Mix station. If you haven’t try their Live at the Moody Theater LP.
I made a great TV discovery this past weekend on the BritBox app — The Brokenwood Mysteries. I enjoyed the show, but I enjoyed the soundtrack even more.
The Brokenwood Mysteries soundtrack features country and folk songs by New Zealand artists. The music feels calm, earthy, and sometimes a little sad, which fits the mood of the mystery stories. The songs aren’t just background sound—they help set the feeling of each scene and make the moments more meaningful.
Artists like Tami Neilson, Delaney Davidson, and Marlon Williams add strong vocals and emotional storytelling. Their music makes the show feel more real and personal. Even if you’ve never watched the series, the soundtrack is still enjoyable on its own because it has a warm and relaxing sound.
Gregory Groover Jr.'s latest one, “Old Knew” on Criss Cross cd
The title makes me think of my Dad, how I wish I could get his advice . . . he sure is missed. He knew . . . about anything I need knowledge of.
Joel Ross is a great addition here.

Before:
Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World, UK 1968 album, not the later compilation that came out mid 80s.
This is a 1973 UK reissue that I found STILL SEALED, I love finding things like that, makes it feel uber special. I’m a Louis uber fan and hunt down the best I can find.
And now:
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - Porgy & Bess, this is a 1961 US reissue on Verve, picked up the reissue because of the condition.
I’m not really into what I’d consider “old time” records like this, but there is something so incredibly magical about these two, I have a lot of their collaborations, and they’re so damn good.
Delightful collection of piano miniatures, so hard to compose, so beautifully concise here. Like haikus in music: 1, 2, and 3 minutes only.
I always think of the Goons, they were a massive influence on my early life, my Dad was obsessed with them and used to play the tapes in the car as we were taking long trips up to the mountains for holidays.
I didn’t realise it at the time, but they’d have a musical interlude on every show, and the mainstay jazz artists were RAY Ellington and Max Geldray
Now whenever I see Duke Ellington, I instantly think of Bluebottle “He’s fallen in da water!”
Sunday night is Mingus night.
I have suffered with a respiratory infection for weeks, since returning from Costa Rica to visit my daughter. I have lived life, but have been mostly miserable. 25 hours on Roon this week with a few more using JRiver. Coincidence I’m much better finally…?
Nasty! Very glad you’re starting to feel better, music is the key!
