Having just staggered downstairs (it was a rough night), and I am about to play some Roy Harper.
Why?
Because 36 years years ago I was here:
Watching Roy Harper at Stonehenge Free Festival (the last year it happened before, well, I refer you to last night’s post by The Levellers - soapbox avoided again).
Spent some time with Roy (and Huw Lloyd-Langton, one of the very nicest people I ever knew) that day. Happier times
Roy was very VERY stoned. About 15 minutes after this shot was taken he fell backwards off the flightcase he was sitting on to perform…
Huw was there to play the Jimmy Page parts from the “Juggula” songs.
Great times
I spent a day at the Stonehenge Festival in '76, shortly before moving to Sweden. Hawkwind. Some very rough types there, also some amiable ones I knew from other free festivals that long, hot summer.
Indeed, it struck me as very peaceful (maaan) in 1983, but had a somewhat different vibe in parts in 1984. A bit too big I think. Having said that the only “trouble” at the 84 do that I was aware of was the heroin dealers who came up from London one day.
They were chased off and their car was burnt out.
83 there were just two coppers in the car park keeping an eye on things. They came on site once to help someone who was very ill. I had a nice conversation with a couple of nuns on a day trip to the stones, I almost persuaded them to have a wander around the site with me but their coach was leaving
Qobuz. CD. The good news? Ms Hahn is a very accomplished violinist and the sound is good. The bad news? These are specially commissioned modern pieces, some of which fall squarely into the ‘screech and plink’ category of composition. Good sound no asset for those, I gave it 45 minutes and then surrendered. Perhaps I missed some final gems, but life is just too short.
This was a concert held by the Stereophile folks back in 1990. It features a couple close friends on Keyboards and Guitar and it’s a fun listen. I think you can still buy it on the Stereophile Website.
