What are you spinning now? (Mark 4)

These are a glory to behold. The released songs (12 released discs total including a recent lost transcriptions release) were recorded as promotional material, complete with a transcripted story for radio stations. They were recorded after tours and were a break from their more formally constructed set list. This is jazz pure and straightforward.

Back to some ambience…

Anecdote alert (as my son says, whilst fleeing the room whenever one seems likely - cheeky bugger!).

2011 - Green Man festival pre-main festival camping, around a large campfire.

I got chatting to a nice few folks (20 ish, curse their youth  ).
One of them had been carting round a bloody great double bass, which piqued my interest at a damp festival.

They had been hoping to play on the small pre-main-festival stage that was set up.
After some laughs and a few jams (I had my guitar with me) they mentioned they did have an E.P or two out (on Bandcamp, of course) and I could download when I got home.
So I did, and stone me some of the tracks were genuinely wonderful

I don’t think they are active any more, having graduated (and in some cases married) etc.

i still listen to them occasionally, and here they are. Very nice (harmony) vocals, dbl bass, mandolin, acoustic guitar, drums etc.

They are / were called “The hunting Bears” (as in bears out hunting).

I heartily recommend you give them a listen

It seems there are two bands with that name - it is this one:

More classical this morning. This time Jeremy Denk “c.1300-c.2000”. A solo piano journey from Machaut through Binchois.

New on Qobuz. HR. I had a couple of 12-string guitars for years; not to extract any delicate tones from them but because they made a lot of noise when folk singing in pubs. Ah, youth! This is an unusual 12-string with a tone closer to a lute/theorbo. It sounds very well indeed and I thoroughly enjoyed the album until the final tracks when he abandoned the likes of Dowland and Bach to play his own compositions. I found these to be lacking in depth and complexity.

Hi @chrisj1948 thank you for the recommendation- did you happen to listen to the separate Gnossienne track as well? Curious to your thoughts - I agree with the lack of depth on the last two tracks on the album.

Yes, I did. That was the track derived from Eric Satie with a very slightly oriental sound to it, wasn’t it? Very nice, but not Dowland!

The intro he added is odd.
