I found a Japanese copy of this early two cd set for a great price. . . and I spent a bit of time comparing the American version to it. . . and both are quite nice, the American a little darker, the Japanese a little airier. . . .

I love this music. I love Gershwin (a love my father’s passion for the music instilled in me) and I like how this “Almanac” differs from other “Songbooks” in arrangements and ensemble variety and the unique nature of Connor’s interpretative singing. Just gets to me. . . in part because her voice also reminds me in timbre of the voice of someone I love very very much (the “one that got away.”)

Very pretty Americana style harmonies from two Swedish chicks. Go figure.

John Coltrane “Coltrane” UHQCD Impulse disc from Japan.

Sounds pretty good. I could wish for a little more . . . body to the sound.

I love the tonality of voice and perfect phrasing, IMO.

Qobuz. HR. Meant to show up contrasts, the two Monteverdi madrigal pieces are very pleasant, but the Marazzoli (I nearly typed Mozzarella!) was more operatic, and at times cacophonous. No prizes for guessing which I preferred

The other one was just too cheesy then…

Lemon Jelly. An odd one this, I know nowt about them, though I’m guessing it’s a producer or two doing it, it sounds like “collage” music to me. It would have been done on a sampler in my day, though probably a laptop in reality. I was leant it by a young lady at work about 10 years ago, and it stuck in my head so I bought a copy, and I still really enjoy listening to it

I finally cracked, having seen so many references here to Jack Teagarden, and played a few of his tracks (currently listening to Glass Blues). Shame that it is jazz, because he seems rather good
