Right now a 1997 SBM Japanese cd, sounds beautiful. Beautiful LP facsimile cover too.
The 75th Anniversary SHM-CD. I realize I have a lot of digital copies of Blue Train! The enhanced US cd. The Japanese RVG edition. The Classics Records DAD. The High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray Audio. And they all sound good if a bit different. In my current system as it sits (well I guess my speakers stand!) The Blu-ray and this one sound really really good and will probably get the most play.
This used to be one of my LEAST favorite Coltrane albums. Over the decades Iāve liked it more and more and see why it is so ārevered.ā Today it is sounding great as the first spin of the day.
I snoozed on this one too long. Had I known that Gary Bartz played on one third of this Iād have bought it sooner!
Really nice, with Charles Ables (Hornās longtime bassist) playing some very nice guitar on some of these tunes.
Decided to play this birthday boyās first Blue Note date as a leader, and it also scratches an itch to hear some Dexter Gordon!
The SHM-CD
Some of my favorite music (Miles Davisā Bitches Brew) re-imagined.
Great sound too.
Animation Asiento
Continuing on my journey through my LP facsimile Miles Davis reissues from Sony. This one is a 20 Bit SBM mastering of the original mix. Sounds fantastic.
Lu Waters, Kid Ory and Bob Scobey sides, disc 5 of the excellent 20 cd set āJazz From Americaā which reissues jazz licensed and released by Vogue Records.
The Mono cd version, disc 2
Another SHM-CD. I love the sound of this 75th anniversary series from Blue Note/Universal. The system is sounding so good today I feel like feeding it high octane fuel! This one is an album I have struggled with over the years and the fight has been worth it. The extra good sound today is just icing on the cake.
For some reason I was thinking about the opening track of this one while driving back from getting my hair cut.
This is the Platinum SHM-CD mono version.
For some reason Freddie on this album cover to me looks like Louis Armstrong if drawn by comic book artist George Tuska.
The first Stereolab full length release. On a nother board some jazz fans are talking about Stereolab all the time, thought Iād give their catalog a check out. Iām enjoying the two discs Iāve heard so far, the female vocals remind me of a singer I used to play with in a band.

From the latest (second) batch of Jazz Connoisseur cds from Legacy (Sony). Sort of easy listening jazz but nice.
A 1976 āfusionā release from this master drummer/pianist/composer.
- Joe Chambers - drums, marimba, vibraphone
- Dick Meza - tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone
- Eddie Martinez - electric piano
- Paul Metzke - guitar
- Herb Bushler - bass
- Omar Clay - percussion
- Ray Mantilla - congas, Latin percussion
Another picture perfect evening in Chi Town. On the deck, while I wait for my BHK 250 to come back from the mother ship. Being able to listen outside mitigates the longing for my amp.
Another step to help is a pair of Sennheiser 650 headphones. Iām going to give them a spin when it gets dark. Best headphone for the money ($300) I could find. Reviews on head-fi are great. Iāll find out more tonight.
Also bought a Cary SLP-05! Havenāt taken it out of the box yet. Maybe tomorrow. The headphone amp in it is well thought of. Would have picked up a BHK Pre but I need a unity gain output (tape loop) for my integrated driving my outside speakers.
Adore this CD set. Headed to the big easy again the end of Apr and over the 4th. Love NOLA!
Listening on the Sennheiser 650s. Not sure yet. First experience with āaudiophileā headphones. Trying to find the soundstage. Very different experience,
Sounds great on the headphones: sounds great no matter what you play it on. Big Wide American Stereo!!
āJump Into The Fireā is sooooo good. Bass line is crazy great!!
