Have to listen to some Duke, he left us on this day in '74. I remember seeing it on the news, I had just started to listen to some of his music thanks to Miles Davis talking about him reverently.
Lars Gullin that I donât believe Iâve heard before.
Budget reissue from 2014 featuring 2001 DSD remastering. Sounds excellent.
And the music is music Iâve enjoyed for probably forty years!
lonson saidLonson, this inspired me to dig out the 4-disc domestic box set I have. I guess it's not DSD mastered as the notes say mastered by Mark Wilder using 24-bit Super Bit Mapping. The sound is OK but lacks a little warmth and depth to my ears. If you're happy with the Japan issues, maybe I should sell the box?

Electric, these Japanese masterings are of just the original LP material, does not include the complete recordings as the US box set does (which is also available I think as two separate 2 cd sets). And the mix is the same, the Japanese and the US were both mastered by Mark Wilder, with a separate Japanese engineer transferring to DSD for the Japanese masters, which were also used in 2001 for SACDs of the two titles.
I do think these two discs have a TINY bit of warmth that the US may lack, but essentially with the DMP and DSD both sound EXCELLENT and not really that different. The Japanese may be a tiny bit more warm and a tiny bit more dynamic, but itâs not really worth doing without the complete recordings and buying again the âFridayâ and âSaturdayâ night Japanese discs.
Right now,
The best sounding digital version of âBirth of the Coolâ that I have, the âRVG Special Editionâ from Japan.

What about the 2016 SHM? I was thinking of ordering.
Havenât heard that one. I like this one so much that I havenât been tempted to buy again. I also have the US cd with the live broadcast material included, and it sounds great, but this RVG mastering is far more dynamic and full-bodied.
24/96 FLAC streaming to the DS through Bridge II. Great sounding and lovely music!
And for something different. Love nearly ever side of Charles Mingusâ music.
NightcapâŚ
Western Swing compilation: Texas Jazz.
24/96 FLAC. Great master of a classic. Has the 70s tape sound all over it: Nice!!! Old Five and Dimers is goose bump stuff!!
The lovely voice, flute, finger snaps and thigh slaps of the lovely Monday Michiru accompanied only by guitars in her follow up cd just released, Naked Breath 2.
Thereâs a Riot Goinâ On in my family room. PCM layer of the DSD. Rocks Hard!!
Lonson, you have me with the cover!

Sheâs a very beautiful, and very talented lady, daughter of Japanese jazz bandleader and composer Toshiko Akiyoshi and Italian-American saxophonist, flautist and composer Lew Tabackin. Iâve collected everything I can find of hers.
Right now, this familiar work as Iâm trying out some promising tubes as input tubes in my amplifier, Mazda PCC189, which may just unseat the Amperex 7308s that have been not replaceable so far . . . .
If youâre a Buck and Merle fan, youâre a fan of the Buckaroos (and Don Rich in particular). The all music and Amazon reviews are midland but theyâre not hearing it on my stereo: big, wide, glorious stereo!!
This morning I have played:
Blue Train - John Coltrane
Ma Fleur - The Cinematic Orchestra
On a Monday Evening - The Bill Evans Trio
Dive - Tycho
