And of course, the modern Christmas giants can’t be denied. The unique style and ageless sound of Chip Davis’s Mannheim Steamroller has become synonymous with Christmas to so many. I love them all, although Christmas Angel is by far and away my least favorite. I lump them together but if I could only have one, it would be the original pictured here.
Last, but certainly not least, the offshoot of the Progressive Metal band Savatage, Christmas phenom Trans-Siberian Orchestral always gets playing time at the holidays. I enjoy their compositions, as well as arrangements of the classics along with their hard hitting instruments. Modern Christmas Classics, along with Mannheim, which have forever changed the landscape of holiday music.
Of course there are so many good ones out there and I could go on and on, but the ones in my posts are the ones on my Christmas Records To Die For list and many have maintained their place for decades. I see many of you have shared some of these already too. Enjoy and share yours!
I was just listening to my absolute favorite Christmas song, “Oh Holy Night” performed by John Berry (album of the same title Nov 2001) and wondered if others have favorite holiday cuts they’d like to share.
