Which Cover Album are You Spinning Right Now?

Barrence Whitfield and the Soul Savage Arkestra, Songs from the Sun Ra Cosmos, Modern Harmonic, 2019.

If you thought Sun Ra was out there, check this out. According to the Sundazed web listing for the LP:

“Barrence Whitfield has channeled the late Sun Ra and delivers what we can best assume Sun Ra would sound like if he had amphetamines kicking up his synaptic dopamine and norepinephrine concentrations in his striatum!”

@bootzilla - Man…Thank You So Much for your tireless efforts on these here music threads✊🏻

The antidote to the bull pucky on other threads.

How cool of a rendition of “Caroline No” is that?

EDIT: was able to sit down and actually listen to the whole thing. Wow. :sob::pray:t2:

Tried to do One “Blown Mind Emoji” and the Forum SW said “Must be at least 4 characters”, which as I recall is HALF of what it used to be? Niiiiiiice. Life is Good.

Oh yes, that “Caroline, No” is very cool … as is the cover art for the single (complete with a wardrobe malfunction/nip slip).

So - who the heck is the Valve Bone Woe bros?

Here are the credits –

Virtually all of the players are unfamiliar to me (Tal Wilkenfield on bass being a notable exception).

Oooh - at the risk of being a lecherous Old Man…

I’ve played electric bass since I was a teenager. So…holy crap. Gurl is Good.

Think it was one of those Clapton Crossroads shows where I went…Uuunnnhhhh

And I know and have known enough musicians personally to know better🤷🏻‍♂️

But its sorta like Chrissie - she may very well be a Hot Mess. But love her anyway.

May be better off never meeting her in person.

Did meet her bass player backstage at a venue I was working at in Chicago at the time (the guy pictured on the back of “Get Closer”) and we had a great chat, and he said I was welcome backstage anytime at any show I came to. Didn’t happen, just in terms of my going to Pretenders shows. Have no idea, but after the fact sorted out that he may have been gay. Really have no idea, and don’t care. Nice guy, bass player extraordinare. Maybe just a lonely road musician who welcomed a kindred spirit.

Oh yeah – I saw Tal live in 2010 with Steve Lukather, Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Weingart at the Baked Potato Jazz Festival, which took place at the Anson Ford Amphitheater in L.A. Steve Lukather is a bit of a lech … at one point during the show, he asked the crowd: “How many guys in the audience want to f— Tal Wilkenfeld?” There were lots of cheers. Immediately thereafter, Lukather asked the crowd: “How many women in the audience want to f— Tal Wilkenfield?” There were fewer cheers (as there were way fewer women at the show than guys), but there was an audible affirmative response from the females in attendance.

ooof. Awkward. Just attended one of the Best Shows of my Life - Herbie Hancock at a great new venue in RiNo in Denver. I last saw him in the 70’s during the Headhunters Tour.

At 80, the dude has lost no passion whatsoever, and had a young, amazing band - and quite unexpectedly did a bunch of Headhunters tunes. :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head:

Vinnie Colaiuta Was the Drummer, and the only other “oldster”, but DAYYAAAM. SO HAPPY to have seen him live.

For a gurl from Ohio, she has nice French pronounciation.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

A tribute to the ‘three Kings’: Freddie King, Albert King and BB King.
