I had to look up AYFKM, funny enough, I use that phrase often! The day is not wasted, I have learned something new.
@Veneet - Yeah, that is a good one. I have my staff trained when they hand me crap deliverable… and it is PC correct for all the well wishers and safe space participants… my first design job my boss asked for my lab notebook. He reamed me out for using #2 instead of #3 lead… those were different times. The first job I had I asked the Sr. Engineer what to do… he said, just stay out of my way cause your stupid and will cost me time teaching you things they never taught you in college… he was a sweetie… I forgot to ask for my safe space… as a boss I am always chuckling these days… we live in very different times…
In many ways it is good we live in different times; bullying is never productive or justified.
On the other hand, everyone needs to be able to accept constructive criticism without meltdown.
@Elk - As a leader it is your responsibility to serve. In my role, I serve my community. They are my boss. Therefore, I need to be very helpful, no matter how horrible my bosses of the last 40 years were to me… Always criticize with very concrete examples and never in public… just praise…
I am unable to parse your post to determine whether you are agreeing or disagreeing with me.
@Elk - how can you not agree with what you said… pretty obvious… golden rule type stuff… I just added a little specificity… in response to your constructive criticism… ANFB…
save you the google search A No F___ Brainer…
Sounds like a shemozzle to me.
@RonP - As usual… you are killing me… I thought the P20 stuff would be fun and informative… the fo shizzle I just threw out there for ELK to wrangle…
It is surprising to me how many do, and exhibit both a personal and management style of bullying and ridiculing.
@Elk - All good, just have to forgive them cause they know not what they do… and most of the time they manage for a few years and get bounced… I have been managing for decades and also been everything from technician to chief engineer and everything in between… perspective is important in managing and also empathy… and of course you know my MB = very high INTJ, so I have to be very cognizant of having zero empathy. When I need to access that empathy gene, I think of my son dying in my arms… the down side is once I open that faucet… hard to shut for a few days… use that very sparingly…
Here, this will give you perspective… Sunday…
Love The Aristocrats… great find… thanks @RedRiver
The world is complicated.
@Elk - Look at you, philosophizing… wrangling the Richard… I do enjoy our exchanges… you know that right?
Hi Richard, your story make my heart melt; It took a lot of courage and empathy to be strong and achieve that inner peace; I cannot even imagine what you and family have been through… My father passed right after my mom in a year and took me years to recover; Hats off to you from bottom of my heart;
@RedRiver - I was driving a car on a windy road, lost control and hit a tree. He was helicoptered to Yale hospital where we pulled the plug that evening. He was 8 years old and beautiful. I sat with him as his hand went cold. I was just accepted to do my PhD (Computational Electromagnetic Modeling) at ASU; just awarded the "Outstanding Student of the Year for our GRAD school for engineering. In a few short hours I went from king shit to broken man… You never know what God has in store for you… That my friend is PERSPECTIVE, cut and dry… every year that goes by I think about how many people I have influenced to do better, to try harder… to really count for something… that is my life, to serve…
I liked the discussion at the top of this thread better than the latter part…
