Iā€™m going to say the greatest bebop singer of all, the only vocalist Miles Davis ever shared a microphone with, Bob Dorough. Listen to his recordings from the mid-50s first, then his albums from the late 20th. If you have never heard him, listen to ā€œYardbird Suiteā€ and ā€œPolkadots and Moonbeamsā€.

Very good and worthy of agreement. One of my favourites is John Singer Sergeant.

Orpheus must have had a very good voice, given what he achieved, not least negating the sirens.

Otherwise, Iā€™d go for Tom Waits or Ian Dury.
