Yes, a cool find! The only wire-recordings based playback I’ve ever known specifically were the Benedetti recordings of Charlie Parker in the 'forties. Phil Shaap did a fantastic job restoring those and mastering them to LP and cd for Mosaic Records.
I miss Phil Shaap on the radio.
I recently upgraded our car stereo situation with a Burmester computer-based 600 W entertainment system with 13 speakers and surround sound. There’s a touch screen interface, but it also can be controlled by voice commands and it will stream Tidal and Qobuz.
It also came with heated and cooled listening chairs and a rather bougie chassis with alloy wheels. And, of course, useless but cool LED party lights.
One of the best car sound systems I’ve heard. All in, it was less money than a loom of Paul’s “Reference” Audioquest cables and about half the cost of Al’s Gryphon.
Buy the stereo and they throw the car in for free. Happy days!
Most of my back seat dates (players) in a 59 VW, cost less than a small pizza. And boy the screams at high dbs. and the toppings were free too. ![]()
Pretty much. Or, rather, buy the computer and they throw in the car…
Anybody else notice better sound quality after the latest Roon Push that rewrites the Roon Database? Everything sounds wider deeper and more real to me.
Yes. I just got the update and rebuild yesterday. I would agree that it does sound better and I didn’t think it needed anything before the update and rebuild. I really can’t pinpoint what is “better” but something has changed for the better. I’m a Roon fanboy anyway and the latest update is just a little more icing on the cake.
How long did the update and DB rebuild take?
Mine has been churning for a while now.
SEE
Maybe like 4 or 5 minutes.
Uh oh.
Probably depends on your library. I have a small ssd and all qobuz or Tidal songs and rest of library on a USB drive.
Was the update just for windows based cores moving it to a service? Or was this for NUCs as well?
I left it “spinning” back at the house.
Will be interesting to see what I return to find…
I just ran Roon (have not in a week or so) and it asked to update. it did, and then a few min after restart I got a box that flashed saying rebuilding Database. it was gone in seconds. Guessing I am good.
I hadn’t had the system running for a few months so the first update took a few days with the spinner running.
The latest one took a few hours - maybe. I wasn’t really paying attention.
I have roughly 6tb of music on the Pink Faun.
I just bought a used Stealth V18 power cable at a “blow-out” price, just to feed my curiosity.
Why should Al have all the fun??? (Don’t tell him, but Al’s my gear hero. Would that be “gearo”?)
I can’t wait to get it and compare to my Audience cables.
Oh–and I’m going into this with my expectation bias that the “tuning ring” is bupkis. We’ll see.
I believe I wrote that for my ZenWave PSR-11 power cord some time ago. Do you want to reaffirm it?
By the way, my system is sounding better than a couple of weeks ago. PSR-11 has had over 1200 hours on it already. So I am 60% done on break in. ![]()
What are you going to use the stealth power cable on?
Mine took around 45 minutes. That’s with a 3.5TB library.
