Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

Lovely! Jealous! S3 mk3s are on my short list.

LOL. Love it.! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Looking forward to hearing about your experience with this after the dust settles a bit.

Cheers.

That is a lot of MSRP in a pretty small space!

Is this a Suncoast room or yours?

An in home install, not mine

Magico M7s

Hard not to like IME. It draws me into the music in a manner I can appreciate and continue to look forward to.

I know, thanks! Out of my reach but maybe not the S3s.

Wadax + D’Agostino + Magico = impressive top of the line combo!

What about your thoughts, sonically speaking?

The padded backing helps with reflections but that flat screen is doing them no favors!

Great system tho!

Today I went to an audio store that invited our club to hear their new WATT/Puppies setup. They were being driven by a pair of the brand new ARC Ref 330m amps and the Ref 6SE line stage. Streaming served by Lumin U2. Transparent cabling throughout.

The RELs were not engaged. It should be noted that while the speakers had a good bit of time on them, the amps and preamp were brand spanking new to the store and had maybe 30 hours on them. Having said that, I personally felt this ARC gear was not a great match (with the possibility it would get better with more time) for these Wilson’s. The low end was powerful but unfocused, and there was some weird lack of cohesion in the mids. On JT’s Gaia, for example, if I hadn’t heard this tune before I’d have a hard time believing James Taylor was playing the guitar that he really is playing. It sounded weirdly uncoupled from his voice. The tonal qualities of the mids and highs were, on the other hand, very nice. But for the amount of coin being considered, I’ve heard Wilson’s generally sound better.

I got home and felt my own system was the screaming bargain of the century  and had nothing to be ashamed of.

Funny, I heard that same AR gear with Wilson Alexia 2s at Innovative Audio and I hated the sound.
I felt bad; I was expecting the opposite reaction.

I think you are allergic to the Wilson Sound.

I may have the same allergy, maybe. My exposure was very limited and it was at the NY Audio Show a good five years ago. I heard them (large speakers unfortunately don’t remember which) in two different rooms powered by Dagostino equipment. I had to leave both rooms after only five minutes because it made my ears hurt. Plenty of detail and dynamics up the wazoo with a wide soundstage but deficiently not my cup of tea. Anecdotal and very limited exposure but it’s left a lasting impression.

Taiko Audio just remotely downloaded their latest XDMS Control App 3.0.2 software to my Extreme music server.
OMG!
Just an incredible leap forward in imaging, timing, and just about everything else!!
I am thrilled with what I am hearing out of my System today.
Far bigger improvement in sound quality than any cable change, power conditioner, amp or D/A converter upgrade I have done in the past.
So happy I made the move to the Taiko Extreme as my current music server.
Now to go through all my FRO’s Favorites to hear everything for the first time…

I have heard a lot of Wilsons and they never made my ears hurts, ever.
When I have heard Wilsons and not enjoyed it they were powered by D’Agostino amps.
Hmmmmmm.

While out speaker shopping I tried various aamplifiers and found a certain magic with the Wilsons when partnered wih simpatico amplification and speaker cables. I won’t go into amplifiers that didn’t meet my fancy, but am not surprised some do not like partnering them with AR Tubes.
My SabrinaX sounded great with a BAT REX and TOTL Audience Front Row cables through out.

To my ear they give me precisely the sound I was looking for with Vitus amplification, even with a lowly Vitus RI-101a MkII.

I hesitated to say anything because my exposure was so limited but your comment is interesting. I can tolerate loud music ( and they were being played loud in both rooms) for a little while but they just didn’t sound right to me and I was puzzled because Wilson is held in such high regard.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I may not be a fan of D’Agostino gear.
