Halloween is coming closer and closer…!
I am back, but there were a few things I had to take care of. The music was just turned on. PSR-14 has been in the system since last night. It sounds great. But I need a bit more time to put back the Dragon to confirm what I heard was “real”.
Anyway, tonight or tomorrow I will have a better assessment.
It sounds like you can’t believe your ears. I hope it’s not a pancake. Since it has already collapsed, it should show its full potential after installation and some recovery after transport. I read about the PSR on another forum. There it was probably also sent through the world and it had caused confusion. Two audiophiles compared it to Dragon. Did you use the Dragon source on your component before? Greetings Andrew
I have two Dragon Sources serving DS MK2 and BHK pre, plus a Dragon HC serving P15. I also use Dragon I2S between PST and MK2. So, I am familiar with how it sounds and how they sound together.
It may not be to Zenwave’s advantage to jump into Dragon zoo in my system. Right the way I heard PSR-14’s strength and its weakness. Yes, it does not kill Dragon in every category I am afraid. I will go back to Dragon soon to confirm before I post anything.
Took my holidays recently somewhere remote and didn’t have an internet connection for over a week. Some people had broadband and it was perfectly normal to ask complete strangers for a hotspot. Bliss.
On the subject of alcohol, on returning to a magnificent and hugely expensive glamping hotel, we were looking forward to a gin & tonic, only to find we were located on monastic grounds and there was no alcohol served. Wouldn’t happen in Italy. I remember a lunch in Spello and a group of nuns turned up and got through huge quantities of Vin Santo.
Reminds me of a backpacking adventure in Arkansas. If only we had known. Fortunately alternatives were available.
Food and wine are intrinsically part of a unique traditional culture, in the same way that arts such as music or poetry or painting have had no barriers over the centuries uniting and mixing the sacred with the profane.
When we go on vacation, I want to make sure there are good wines available. If not, I will just bring my own.
Funny, I just ordered one of these yesterday…
Very interesting and you seem to know a lot about this power cord.
You are right! Even though this is a demo cord, it still need some time to “recover” from traveling. Today my system sounded a lot better than yesterday with PSR-14 in MK2. To a point that I am rewriting my review. So, I need more time to compare the two and will post mine tomorrow.
I will simply enjoy the music tonight since I received a bunch new CDs from Japan that I want to listen.
I went into a high-end audio store today and did not buy anything.
Those with you did they make a purchase?
Did you visit the psychiatrist right afterward to see if they could figure out what was wrong with you?
I wouldn’t worry about Paul and the Other Paul having a little restraint at the dealer today. Though restraint is not the corner stone of ours or any other hobby, it’s not a bad thing. It gives us all the time to evaluate, reflect, ultimately purchase “the one”, and then later fall out of love and sell it on Audiomart a couple years later. Add less time for things like fuses.
It wasn’t a criticism, but a hunch. Quintessence is a great shop. My understanding, from Sohail, is they are no longer a Pass Labs dealer. Possibly checking out the DCS offerings? When in the market I seek out the usual suspects in the area, and let them know upfront it is a research day, with a possible purchase down the road. To a degree I felt bad about buying my Pass Labs equipment from Reno, not local. What I wanted was not available locally. Rumor has it a Madison dealer may pick up the line, but that’s just it, a rumor.
I’m sure you guys had a great day!
I had only read about the Zenwave cables. I haven’t had a chance to hear them yet. You’re doing that for us now. Cables take time. As far as I know, a short explanation: The larger the individual crystals, the longer the correct sonication/conduction takes, since the distance between the crystals is also larger. It takes time to form bridges between the crystal lattices. For this reason, cables should not be moved or dropped if possible, so that the connections are not destroyed again. It is probably more pronounced in solid core cables than in stranded cables, where the structure is smaller. A friend once told me that he had removed the cables from the cable manager at an audiophile’s. He wanted to know how heavy a cable is. He immediately scolded him for having to re-record them. You should avoid impacts, falls and strong bending, as this can lead to deformation of the crystals and destruction of the lattice. Similar to bending a piece of wire or a paper clip back and forth. Eventually it will break. But Dave will know more about it. I had only read in another test report of the PSR 14 that the sound changed slightly 2-3 days after transport. With that in mind, and if it’s actually true, we should be careful about quickly switching back and forth between different cables. Avoid pulling out cables and dropping them on the floor. Are there significant differences in the presentation that immediately catch the eye? With the Audioquest Dragon, you know your system. I am not writing what I have previously read about the PSR. I’m waiting for your impressions. I hope you haven’t read all the other recessions about it beforehand. It often happens that one interprets something into it. Apart from Vmax he experiences the opposite of the master.
Or did he or we want to hear that?
Your socket comes too. Then you have to listen again and the pendulum can swing in one direction or the other. Have fun with your comparison test.
Dragon power cord, for instance, takes a day to regain the dark background back if unplugged and moved. Zenwave PSR appears to do the same thing. It is quite difficult to do a quick comparison. I am plugging in the Dragon and noticed the magic took a few hours to reappear, but not fully.
Since I’m not familiar with the sound from PSR, I noticed a bigger SQ change after a day. There’s a good reason why the professional reviewers take a long time to do a proper review. I feel I will take more time to hear what PSR cord really does. I will see how it goes tomorrow.
The dcs box did look nice and sound nice.
Multiple Wilson speakers also looked nice
(but do does the FR20 at home)
Such a comparison is sometimes not easy. Often one only pays attention to differences that are immediately noticeable. If the difference is not immediately inaudible, you should listen longer. It is better to judge something only after a certain time and to get to know strengths and weaknesses better. Perhaps you still know dealers where you can swap speakers back and forth directly. Rash decisions were often made there. With longer listeners, sometimes it’s just the opposite of what they like.
Sometime ago I heard the Sabrina X and was smitten. Went down a different rabbit hole, one I had always been curious about. Now that is more or less behind me.
