My oldest daughter with a PHD in Psychology is heavily involved in two Chicago Bookstores, Open Books, and Perpetual. She loves it. As you say the interaction with people, serving her community, a means to innovate, and access to all those books. She introduced pop-up book sales across Chicago’s artisan cafes, which took off. She has also added used record sales to the mix at both brick and mortar shops.
Open Books mission goes beyond the typical Barnes and Noble, as a not for profit they provide free books and reading programs for the underserved within Chicago.
I went to trade school myself. College? No thank you. My daughter has a College degree in teaching. She got her degree in December 2019. Do any of you remember what happened in March of 2020? She announced on graduation day that she wasn’t interested in teaching. Nobody was interested in teaching by August 2020. No big deal, she is a happy person. That is all that matters to me. Sadly, she is quite wealthy. More so than me. But that’s another story. She has zero interest in audio gear. Sigh.
Nice story! My older daughter graduated from Penn 8 years ago, and she got multiple nice job offers 6 months before graduation. Now both of her and Son-in-law are VPs in highly regarded investment banks. I am jealous of their high income. They have no interest in audio gear. The nice streamer I gave them two years ago is still in their garage.
My younger daughter graduated from UC Berkeley two years ago, and will get her MS degree in U Michigan soon. Different times make so much difference. The Data S. and Computer S. job market is in a deep slump ( not their stocks). Tech. companies are not hiring mainly because they spend all their capitals on AI, and they only hire experienced engineers.
Hence she is pursuing another degree in a different field. She loves studies so that is a good thing.
I went to a trade school too in late seventies. An electronics Technician diploma.I hatted primary school. Ended my career as a Software configuration engineer teaching developers processes/procedures. Go figure. My daughter has a BS business working for New Balance, is excited about my incoming Acora MRC-3s in Eramosa crosscut with black drivers. The fact she loves music and the way my system looks makes me proud and happy.
After 26 hours of continuous break-in, PMG SACD T. has opened up quite a bit. It has already sounded a lot better than PST. This is by far the quietest component from PSA that I have owned.
I am quite excited about PMG512. According to Paul, it has a bigger improvement gap over DS MK2 than SACD transport over PST. However, PMG512 has many glitches needed to be fixed still. I will wait for one or two more FW updates before considering the upgrade. If I did not know about PMG512, I will say I am done. The SQ from my system has exceeded my expectation already.
Another week we will go to Maui to enjoy some warm ocean weather. Should I use a USB drive to play SACD transport for a whole week? Probably not, it will sound incredible by the end of next week for sure. Oh, I have a FRR XLR coming on Monday. Maybe I will not put it in just yet.
Yeah, I won’t go into the details, but the clinical side was horrendous. Her research at University of Illinois, Cognitive Neuro-Psychology on one of Neal Cohen’s teams, she enjoyed and probably was better suited to it.
I wonder which one of us will cave in and pull the trigger on the 512 Dac first . The big question here Donald is, are you bringing your clubs to Maui?
