Anyone interested?
Made in UK (but at least one in kit form has been sent to US with no problems) by a friend of a friend.
I have no affiliation other than that.
I would have bought one of these if I had seen them before I bought my “disco deck”, and
I do know a couple folks who do have them and swear by them.
Custom colours, logos etc. possible too.
He also does standalone arms to a couple different standard geometries.
Some of them look good enough to eat
Only a facebook link I’m afraid, here is the reply to a question I asked:
"
John Maidment the story behind the little 0BS turntable started out as a thought experiment - can you 3D print a turntable? At the time I had no preconceived ideas of how that might look, technically, or any expectations of performance beyond ‘works and doesn’t damage records’
On the way, I was limited by some aspects of my printers (bed size etc) but it also opened up some possibilities to do things with internal structure and shapes which are impossible via conventional subtractive manufacturing. The main bearing I think is unique (or at least not the standard shaft / sleeve) as are some aspects of the tonearm.
Anyway, on completion of the prototype and having a listen, it turned out that sonically it was FAR better than I’d expected, but looking at it now, there are reasons for this.
Several people now (including one person who is able to demonstrate it in his shop against RP1 and RP2 - lets be reasonable here) have come back and said its better than those in various ways, and several have said they chose it because it’s just so much damn fun!
I do think in kit form (its easy enough for kids to build with a bit of supervision) and the fact that there is a variant with built in RIAA, its a great choice for younger folk who just want to plug it into their desktop speakers, or with a better cartridge (I’ve had a VM95ML on mine) it is capable of seriously decent performance.
