A little background on the PMG Sig DAC

In my world the analog section and power supply count as much or more than the digital bits (pun intended). So there it is. DACs have come a long way, and IIRC Paul indicated he has recently heard a most impressive DAC chip that could be a game changer. Now where did I place that McGowan embellishment filter?

I am interested to know your opinions about the DACs that you mentioned.
Yesterday I heard a Tambaqui compared to my APS modified PS Audio MK1 in my friend’s system. Certainly not an apples/apples comparison but I quite liked the Mola Mola.

It wouldn’t be fair to try to draw conclusions from the DAC’s I have heard. Too long ago and my system has, except for speakers, been entirely revamped.
In general terms, the MK2<MSB/Discrete<Tambaqui<MU2=PMG. And, there are plenty of holes you can shoot into that ranking. The only way to truly know is to have the newcomer in your system for more than a day.
That said, the main thing I hold on to in any shoot out is how close it sounds to the real thing. That’s what gives me goosebumps….well recorded acoustic instruments that have the attack, air, body and timbre that draws you in.
