AES/EBU vs Bridge and Mac Mini vs PC

@cerobo, BTW my i2s module will fit on that Julia card.

Are you saying I could add i2s to my bdp-1 with your module?

Cool!

Please tell us more.

@vortecjr From your descriptions, the only difference between the Orbitor and the Rendu is the output. On your website, it appears that the Rendu works with the JRiver/JRemote combo while the Orbitor does not? Is my accessment of the two options correct?

Yes. You have to check the clearance. You may have to remove the digital output board if it's in the way. We may also have to log into the unit to configure the output. It's simple and I can do this from remote for you. Does it have a web interface for setup?

elk, it's the board I used in my own server. I still have a batch because from time to time we get special requests to make the i2s version of the server. They work in Native mode with the PWD and also work fine into other i2s DACs compatible with the PS Audio specification.

gswaul, these two units are completely different internally. In fact, the case is about the only thing they have in common. This is why each one has a specific prescription on usage. The Sonore Sonic Orbiter (USB output) is a low power mother board running a custom OS that uses Logitech Media Server and it's corresponding mobile APPs for a server and controls respectfully. The Sonore Rendu (i2s or SPDIF or analog output) is a custom made audiophile grade circuit board running firmware dedicated to audio playback.

Bryston BP-1 or BP-2 modified to output i2s over HDMIā€¦ Thatā€™s like sharks with freakinā€™ lasers on their heads!

Without nativeX thoughā€¦ Itā€™s just seabass; slightly ill-tempered seabass.

Thank you, Jesus.

stereophilus, I understand the Native X argument, but it's not really my concern here because we have other solutions that support it. There are 5 DACs on the market that the board works with and not everyone who owns a PWD has the MKII upgrade...

Thank you, Jesus.

elk, it's my pleasure..

@vortecjr sorry Jesus, no disrespect intended. My real aim was a little humour.

However, despite it not being your concern, it is a small but growing group of audiophiles who own a PWD II. My experience with a server feeding the PWD II with i2s over HDMI in nativeX is that the sound is better than anything else I can compare to, and gapless. It may be that achieving nativeX in your products opens up significant opportunity to market to this group.

Let's hope your prayer is heard, then
It would be a real blessing for us all.

stereophilus, none taken:)

have anyone tried some product like this Hydra with PWD MKII?

Plugging it in to USB of server and then via I2S to the PWD should eventually bring SQ of PWT ? Or am I too optimistic?

http://audiobyte.ro/hydra.html

What Iā€™m searcdhing for is a box that will take an ethernet stream and let me output (gaplessly, of course) i2s for NativeX, AES/EBU, coax SP/DIF and USB. So far I havenā€™t found one.

Why do I want this? It would let me keep using my PDW (solving the gapless problem) using the best quality inputs, i2s. It would also let me experiment with other DACs. Iā€™m really eager to try a DSD-capable DAC, but most of the ones Iā€™ve looked at require USB input for the high sampling rates. More generally, a unit such as I described would provide the most flexibility for those of us who rely on a NAS, not a computer, to stream our audio.

Maniac: please let me know when any configuration/set-up of the PWD2/Bridge matches the PWT. been wanting to pack up my discā€™s and sell the PWT for 3 years now. seems weā€™re kinda close regarding redbook but hi-res isnā€™t there yet. almost wish iā€™d never gotten the PWT. it sets a very high bar imho.

@maniac

It certainly looks like a viable contender.

I wonder if the I2s [ HDMI] mapping matches that of the PWD?

@maniac interesting! It re-clocks the data thoughā€¦ I wonder if this will affect the SQ?

Levi said: PWT. it sets a very high bar imho.

It does, indeed.

Team, I have the Hydra X here and use it with my Sonic Orbiter via USB. What do you want to know about it?

BTW I have a Rendu i2s on route to PWD MKII owner. We should have information on the combination by the weekendā€¦
