An HDMI De-embedder for SACDs . . . Cool Idea, but How is this Legal?

I’ve looked at all the internet forum threads I can find on this subject and haven’t found one that lists the process in plain English that I can understand. If you know of one that’s that simple, I’ll be very happy to learn about it.

Hi Craig:

The I2S input on the Stellar is only for a handshake with the DirectStream Transport SACD for DSD playback. And yes, the D.BOB outputs DoP only through coax and Toslink. The D.BOB does work with the big DirectStream DAC.

Thank you for your interest in the D.BOB,

Eric

Thanks, Eric. Sounds like the D.BOB won’t be for me, then. I appreciate the info.

free software that costs under $100? Free isn’t free?

Dude, read what I wrote again:

“…free software and hardware that costs under $100.”

So yes, free software that is actually free. The hardware is a DVD player that, with the free software, can rip SACDs.

My bad

As a D.BOB owner and a long-time SACD ripper since the early PlayStation 3 days, I think it’s great to have both approaches. I now rip all my SACDs using either my Oppo 105 or the MSB UMT. Those rips are stored along with all other music files on both the Nucleus+ internal drive and my NAS. I also have an Oppo 205 in the same room with the main stereo that I use for home theater purposes. I figured the D.BOB would be worth trying, and it was. No, it’s not quite the same as a DMP connected to a DS over I2S, let alone a dCS transport [I can’t clock it out of my Vivaldi stack], but it’s pretty good. And it’s nice to be able to listen to a new disc before going through the ripping and tagging process. I have the D.BOB connected via Toslink, and it delivers DoP to the DAC just fine. It’s about as plug & play as one can get. GeerFab deserves a real pat on the back for this one.

I’ll also give a thumbs up to the ripping process work done over at HiFi Haven and linked above. They have made it about as easy as possible. And if you don’t already have one of their supported universal players, they are readily available on fleabay for less than $50.
