Any Martin Logan fans out there?

This is why I had to go to a HYBRID speaker, the SIZE of a panel speaker gets too big as it adds more and more dynamics. I don’t have that kind of room.

Not to mention phase cancellation at low frequencies with ‘stats. You require too much compensation and then reach limits of the panel’s excursion.

THAT store also did not have the right equipment driving the Neolith. Sound was big, but not as resolving as it should have been. They now have another pair of Neoliths on display. This time with better electronics driving them, and they do sound smoother, though I haven’t done serious listening.

So looks like the box states CLX IIz. That’s interesting. If my magic decoder ring is working, the electronics are circa 1990 and the panels are 2001. They are definitely CLS II panels. Not sure of A, B, Z etc.

So far the stage is excellent and overall sound is too. Subs are at about 55Hz and volume is 9 o clock which is fairly low but is working for jazz, rock, hip hop etc.

Adele test track sounds amazing.

Thanks for all the input. I found a ML owners forum as well.

That’s also an excellent resource. One of the members there - ttocs - posted a link to a great video for setup. This should get you to it: Speaker set up class | MartinLogan Audio Owners Forum

Bass phase cancellation is a “problem” only if you don’t design the speaker right. But yes, you have to consider how to mitigate that. The CLX use that side panel to stop bass phase cancellation. My frequency tests from the seated position show no real issues at all, just the ability, or not, to move a lot of air in the mid bass region.

Thank you ! Great vid. Hope the MLO forum is beneficial. We will see I guess.

Happy cake day Paul!

I agree…once one takes the leap and goes away from box speakers…for me it was Maggie 20.7s…you become addicted to the lack of coloration that box speakers produce…unless you spend a ton of money. I think one is better reallocating dollars to panel speakers with good amplifiers that can drive those panels…or MBL omnis.

Whenever I listen to panel speakers, my first reaction is to be impressed with their openness, transparency, lack of coloration. My immediate reaction has always been that they are a fun speaker. But the fun quickly switches to cold and analytical for me. Kind of like white wine.

Ron,
If you’ve never heard Sanders Sound Systems Model 10e hybrid 'stats properly set up you’re in for a treat. Nothing cold or analytical at all. These are my “forever” speakers and have been in the system longer than any other component by far. Plus Sanders has the best customer service.

One man’s opinion of course, but there are many glowing reviews of the 10e out there.

I never have. And I will try to.

AND… for those with Sanders speakers and any interest in BACCH-DSP, apparently there’s a level where certain parameters have been optimized for Sanders speakers.

I’m using Martin Logans myself, and Mr. Choueiri said during my recent setup call that electrostatics (and I believe panels in general) are fantastic for the BACCH system.

I have a pair of incredible sounding and imaging Classic ESL 9s in my dedicated listening space

My love for my speakers is well documented. They only get better and better and the resolution and quality only gets better with every upgrade that is done. They are truly limitless (with the exception of deep bass) the soundstage is immense and deep they continue to blow me away with the detail but I wouldn’t consider it analytical. The CLX is one of the very few ML speakers that is not hybrid with an integrated woofer, it is 100% panel and 100% magic! With the Rel Subs it is hard to beat and any price IMO.
