AURALiC Aries G1 Anyone?

Yes Al they have their own app that while different than LDS is still very good and extremely stable. They have regular updates. I’ve also owned a device that runs on the Lumin app for about 3 years. Their comparable units the the Auralic G series are there two U1 devices. They are also the developer of the apps for Esoteric and Teac.

Not a Roon user. The LDS app has worked flawlessly for me using WiFi. No crashes, buffering or hiccups.

Congrats.

I agree, and I was a Roon user for three years. Is LDS as good as Roon? No. Is anything else as good as Roon? Prolly not. But it ain’t free.

I think in large part it depends on how you use it. I mostly search by Album, as I have all my life. Works good.

LDS has done the job for me for almost five years and like badbeef I am album oriented.

I can’t get over the price argument from peeps who spend tens of thousands on this hobby, yet complain about $10 a month for such a powerful digital library management app.

Tell me you don’t use it because it is inferior to other options out there, but don’t say it’s better, but not free.

Just my lame opinion, of course.

My impression over time is people are not complaining about the amount of money per se, rather they do not like the subscription agreement model - even though it is becoming more prevalent in all forms of software.

I suspect basic cynicism rooted in the fact it is the manufacturers pushing the model, not consumers, and it appears to be a way to forcibly extract maximum green energy from the buying public.

Not true. They are NOT the same.

I moved away from Roon for three reasons: because it required both a subscription and some sort of Roon Core hardware to run it, and at the time (pre Rock/NUC) the general wisdom was that it didn’t sound as good as other ways of doing it.

I was looking for something self-contained. I have nothing against Roon. Wish I’d bought it when it was $350 Lifetime. But the Lightning app works fine for my use case, and the remote control of all aspects of the HW via web app is nice as well.

I know, that was what I was trying to say

Not sure how I got that so wrong! Lol. my apologies!
The G2 is REALLY good, love mine.
