Nope
Queen of the Night is a bit of a freak show. I’m seeing Die Zauberflöte in a month or so at Covent Garden and the role is taken by a complete newcomer from Finland.
The more demanding landmark coloratura soprano role is the mad scene in Lucia Di Lammermoor. It was instrumental in Joan Sutherland’s career. It is very long and can involve a lot of acting. The current Royal Opera production has the whole cast on stage, in the English National Opera version (which I’ve seen by them and also by Goteborg Opera in Oslo) she is alone on stage, which doesn’t work. I was very lucky to see the American soprano Lisette Oropesa at Covent Garden, it was her first role for the Royal Opera, and she was utterly amazing.
She is not a first tier soprano, but has received rave reviews and standing ovations in one of the hardest roles wherever she has performed it.
Ohhh…you mean that thing the Squid Singer sings in The 5th Element…
I once worked with Yma Sumac. Unearthly.
Explained without pretension.
Bobbie Gentry
Dusty Springfield
Karen Carpenter
Aretha Franklin
That rendition failed to convey the tragedy of Lucia’s predicament. Otherwise a good film. You may remember Ian Holm, who played the priest. Did films because he had stage fright and returned to the theatre as, of all things, Lear, at the National Theatre, which was one on the best theatrical performances I have ever seen. Regrettably Mila Jojovic was not cast as Cordelia, which would have been nice, especially in Gaultier’s G-string of a dress.
Anyone with a ten octave range is unearthly!! At my best, when I was a young whippersnapper, I could only do eight octaves. Now, it’s at best three octaves. Old age is a bummer, at times. Then again, when I was that whippersnapper, I could sing two notes at once. Now, one note at a time is a challenge. Sighhhhh!

My eyes moisten when I listen to her.
Makes you cry.
At the top of my list is Miriam Feuersinger.
Here’s a taste:
Actually, according to the Merriam Webster website, irregardless IS a word, and proper to use, but definitely NOT the preferred word, which is reserved for “regardless”. They do suggest to use “regardless”.
Delicious
