Online I would recommend acoustic sounds, turntable lab or numero group. Rhino has a pretty good online store. There are also a lot of sellers on eBay with large selections and I often buy records on eBay (just did today lol) Discogs is fine, but I donāt prefer it. Also, **cough** Amazon is pretty good too.
For physical shops, here are some of my favorites.
Dusty groove is great, but I think they do a lot of online business. Less than a 5 min walk away is Reckless Records. They have a couple of Chicago locations but wicker park was/is my fav.
Gramophone in Chicago is also very good. But focused mostly on dance and house/techno music.
Peoples records in Detroit is a personal fav. 1/4 of my collection prob came from there. If Hello records still exists that is another amazing Detroit shop. Found sounds in ferndale is also very good.
Blue Arrow in Cleveland is a must visit
Used kids and spoonful in Columbus are both good. Used kids seems more focused on new records now but the new arrival bin is always overflowing
Princeton Record Exchange is a phenomenal record store. Maybe the best.
my fav shops in NYC are A1 in manhattan, focused primarily on hip hop, disco and dance. Academy Records in Williamsburg. And Black Gold in carol gardens/red hook. Black gold is run by my childhood best friend, so I gotta include it
Sadly I think the 2 best record stores in Boston/Cambridge, Cheap-O and In Ur Ear no longer existā¦. Truly a shame. But I do believe Armageddon shop is still around.
Record Surplus in LA is my fav LA record shop. Honestly I wouldnāt even bother with amoeba. I bet there are plenty of great record shops in LA, but I almost always spend all my money at Record Surplus and canāt afford to go anywhere else.
