Beta Test Impressions for New Stellar Phono Preamp!

Haha, I felt bad for Craig last time when you kept calling his tunes old man music. :joy:

Yeah - but like Paul, he is WAY more into BIG LEVELS than I am. If that Old Man Music doesn’t punch you in the chest, it ain’t happening.

And I happen to like his taste in Old Man Music. Was just trying to encourage him to spin something from this decade for you youngsters :cowboy_hat_face:

We don’t count ambient noise level generally at that sort of show I would think, but - perhaps the level of a bunch of people talking? So, some sort of Intolerably Horrific Level, from an Audiophile/Classical perspective.

I suppose I may be trying to suggest that it is one of the advantages of a show where one is not scowled upon for drawing breath, whispering or farting.

Fortunately only pro players can play that loud. But a bunch of students can make a lot of noise, too.

Hey man, I like to think I have pretty distinguished taste in music. Roy Ayers is the sh*t.

I have found the audience before a classical concert is typically enthusiastically chatting around 65dB.

OK. And? People at a show don’t STFU when the band starts?:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I guess I feel like some folks THINK and WORRY about their live music and their reproduced music WAY too much.:man_shrugging:t2:

Simply adding to your response to jazznut’s query.

Sorry - yes, poorly expressed. The ambient level is likely higher during songs at a “Rock Show!”

“If there’s rock show at the Concertgebow
They’re got long hair at the Madison Square
You’ve got Rock And Roll at the Hollywood Bowl
We’ll be there, ooh yeah”

Back on thread topic, a friend of mine was laughing out loud about the dynamic range of an LP (forget which one) played back here prior to The Distancing. As in, “No one who thinks LPs lack DR would think that after hearing that!”

Thanks James! Yeh, I got old man music…I’ve been collecting since the mid ‘50s. And The Beef ain’t that much younger than I am! (But he is well read and well listened). I’m very open to later stuff…that’s why I always invite you all to bring what you like and turn me on! My son is trying to stretch my tastes…gave me the latest Heliocentrics…and Darren (30 something) gave me some Les Claypool with Sean Lennon… All good! :sunglasses:

Haha. Yeah, your library is incredible! Like I said, I like old man music. It’s better than about 98% of the stuff coming out now. I was raised by two classical musicians, so that certainly helped develop my taste.

Only thing, I could certainly go an entire audio show without hearing Diana Krall. :grimacing:

Yes, banning Ms. Krall and all other female pop altos would be an excellent start.

But do you like Celine Dion?

I do!

I think Ms. Krall, Ms. Jones and a few similar arists are quite a bit more than “pop altos”. Have you heard their compositions and piano playing? Not all of their stuff is covers. Way more talented than many IMO.

Celine Dion, now she belongs firmly in the pop singer, star category for better or worse (sorry spyman007.)

Maybe we should get this thread back to the Stellar Phone Pre? And we need a new category for those who purchased the SPP and were not part of the beta test.

That’s okay. You like your artists, I like mine. That’s what makes these forums so interesting.

Agree, back to Beta testing. Apology, I was carried away.

I was playing the 2 Channel Layer of my Rite Of Spring SACD and Holy Shxxt, the Tympani’s are Lease Breakers. One day we’ll have a home instead of the Apartment Complex we are living in at the moment and I’ll be able to seriously “Crank It” !

Sorry for the Digital Post on an Analog page.
