BHK Signature 250 or 300 Tube Rolling

I currently have Seimans CCA’s gold A-frames is my BHK300’s and wondering if the matsushita mentioned above would a good back up to get when the CCA’s need replacement eventually. When I bough the CCa, the seller was nice enough to include a spare, but finding 3 matching tubes seems to be getting quite expensive.

The 7308’s are very close to the CCA.

Thanks. Maybe the western electric will makes these tubes again in the US. Heard great things about a prototype 6SN7 someone is testing.

Ccas are the best in the Pre, and Siemens 7308s in the Amps. Best 12au7 variant was Amperex 7316 and Siemens Nickel plates.

I should also note I’m using NOS Sylvannia 12AU7 on the BHK preamp.

I’m quite happy with the Matsushita 7DJ8’s. They sounded pretty good from the get go, but improved quite a bit after 75 hrs or so.

Is it bad that when I was cleaning off the far end of my work bench I found a pair of pinch waist Matsushita 7308/188CC’s that I don’t remember buying?

And now you don’t even need them.

I could use them in our BHK Pre, but that would be after I go through my backlog of Mullard’s and Telefunken’s. The CCA Mullard’s are so awesome in the Pre.

When I sell the Pre, I’m going to have to decide if I am going to part with some of my 6/7 and 12V collection. It may be easier to have a colonoscopy without anesthesia.

I never had any luck at all with 6 or 7 volt tubes in the BHK preamp and always went back to NOS 12 volt. Even though I no longer have anything that takes the 6,7 or 12 volt tubes have still been reluctant to sell any of them. All of my preamps are now just 6SN7 and can’t see changing to anything that isn’t. The Matsushita’s have a family resemblance to the Mullard’s but still not quite the same but also not the price. I have two pairs of 6 volt Matsushita’s still and one pair of 7 volt. I have a preamp that’s on “long term loan” to a friend that I last tried the Matsushita’s in but put in late 60’s Sylvania’s I bought in a bulk sleeve pack before I “loaned” it to him.

You know Vince, I do believe that you purchased them from me a couple of years ago. While I was living in the Bay Area!
I might be wrong but I do remember you buying a pair of tubes from me. I am just not sure what brand/model they were.
Cheers,
Sandrock/Ian

Hey Ian!

I think those were Tungsram’s. I forgot about those too!

It’s a sign.

Does the audiophile community need to start “Tubes Anonymous”…

I have to agree, tube rolling can and can be very addictive! I try my best to behave myself. I don’t want to get strung out chasing a rabbit that is elusive yet has a siren song……
After 2 years of homeostasis, I slipped of the wagon twice, the last being last weekend, on the advice of others, (no names shall be mentioned) I purchased a set of Matsushita PC 88 7DJ8 tubes for my BHK Preamp.

The kicker is that less than 3 weeks ago I purchased a set of Golden Lions (that really sound great) but as usual, I wanted MORE….
One needs to be careful with tube equipment as it can become so addictive….

Vince, I was just wondering ‘if’ you have tried the Matsushita PC 88 7DJ8 and if so, I wonder what you thought of them?
Any feedback you can give would be appreciated.

They look very nice when I take them out of the box. That’s about has far as I’ve gone with them. Now that the MKII is broken in I am going to roll some tubes through the Pre. I’ll put the Matsushita 7308’s in first. I might be able to start doing this late next week. I am slammed at work between now and then.

I am truly loving the NOS Matsushita PCC88 7DJ8 tubes in my BHK 300’s. Clearly better than the stock Gold Lions. I don’t need to look any further. :innocent:

Now I’m wondering if the NOS Matsushita 12AU7 would in my BHK Pre will bring me even better results.

I had that combo at one point when I had a 250 and BHK Pre. It wasn’t as tubey as I wanted it to sound. But if you like something more neutral, you will really like the combo.
